Flock cameras aren’t owned by the government

They can be.

Flock has the network infrastructure and AI.

Flock will sell cameras. It is an easy revenue stream. But existing cameras (DOT, intersection, ATM, Ring, etc..) can volunteer to partner with the network.

If your community does not want to partner, they do not have any obligation to do so.

I'm not really pro or anti flock. I don't think the rapid expansion of their use without having a broader local, state, and national discussion on the ramifications is good, but I think a lot of the arguments against them are poor too. They've been wildly effective and the worst cases of abuse by them are stuff like "dumb cop spies on his ex wife".

I think I'm kind of just numb to it because I'm pretty familiar with tech thats already in use. A lot of people have used the COVID lockdown example and how Flock could be weaponized if that happened again, but if they really wanted to they could see we are going places we aren't supposed to or whatever else with pretty basic geofencing tech using our cell phones. We have a camera and listening device on our person 24/7.

So to me Flock gives us capabilities we didn't have before in tracking down cars after Amber or Silver alerts, but doesn't really give the government capabilities to spy on us any more than they already have. Its fewer steps in some cases for them to jump through though, absolutely.

This is why being involved in local government is so important and so many people don't do it enough. Myself included.

While true, I don’t spend my entire life in my community and do not want to be under constant government surveillance elsewhere.

To me it is sad how many people have no problem with being watched by the government and an untrustworthy private company..

Does your vehicle have a license plate?
Is your vin number on display inside your 4th amendment protected automobile?
How many times a day do you think your plate gets run on the road to confirm the forced purchase of private automobile insurance?

What purpose do those serve?
Because you dont seem to have any problem with it.

Are you typing this on a smartphone?
Chrome or Edge browser?
This notion that you are going through life with no footprints isn't going very well for you.

Maybe you should stay on private property.

It is better for your mental state in a world of zero presumption for privacy out in public.

Am I being forced to use a smartphone or browsers by the government?

Silly argument.

I haven’t seen cops actively running plates on all vehicles driving by.

Interesting that some of you want to live in a surveillance state like North Korea.

Do you know that there are Flock cameras on drones?

You aren't being forced to do anything. But participation with browsers and smartphones has your data stored by multiple private companies (no different than flock. No one is sitting there watching these things. The data is sitting and waiting).

Their cars do that. So technically not the cops. The cop cars. Cops hands are usually on the steering wheel as they drive around public roads and private parking lots on a street beat. Technology does what you are afraid of (I guess you didn't know).

None. But my medical records are compiled in a database. Just like my credit records. And insurance claims records. And motor vehicle records. And criminal records. I could probably run a Google search on my username and get a record of my post history.

Welcome to the 21st century in case you didn't know where you are.

Are you still "internet angry" about Flock where no one is watching you drive around but your data is stored for 2 weeks?

No opinion.

Even as a libertarian, I understand being in public cedes any rights to privacy.

I read comments about "China" or "North Korea" or "USSR" or "1984" or "Orwell".

The problem with the analogy is the truth. Orwellian society is where the lies must be perpetuated in order for the society to continue. People are afraid to speak the truth to power because they will be punished (either by the state or by their neighbors).

Flock is no different than a license plate, registration, and forced purchase of auto insurance. You dont have to do these things. But you best stick to private roads if you do not.

No one is forcing you to say or live in a way which isn't true.
Flock has no impact on whether society is arse backwards or not. We seem to have gotten there on our own (what is a woman? What medicine/vaccine/schedule is "safe"? The BLM riots are mostly peaceful).

Ultimately I'm in favor of removing Hussein's 5th column and then the actual need for them and the militarization of our police forces would evaporate.

They greatly aid ICE in tracking down Biden's illegally imported future voters. Once the DSA learned of this, they anti-Flock went through the roof.

Now, that is not 100% of the opposition. There are some Constitutionalists who argue the 4th Amendment, but courts have argued the reasonable angle. Kind of the same way you have the sovereign citizens who claim they don't need a license because they are just commercing.

It will get worse before it gets better. Almost all cops have body cameras, every private business and many private homes have security. If you have a smart phone, you carry a Flock with you every where you go.

The only people in favor of flock cameras are the ones that falsely believe if they don't do anything wrong, then it doesn't affect them. It's not the camera it's the use of multiple cameras that keep a data base of your movements that is available without a warrant. When our governments are totally staffed with angels and saints I'll accept them with joy.

I think if we hadn't let in a bunch of people into our country illegally, we wouldn't need them.

However, crime is rampant.

Cameras helped find the man who raped my 89 year old mom.

T,hey are a necessary evil.

They are more a symptom of the issues facing our country.

Republicans used to be against big government, against overreach, for privacy. I know technically the ended when the patriot act was envoked...but you guys are just giving away your privacy and freedom for daddy government. You may like who is there now (he isn't your friend btw) but you might not like someone else later, and it will be too late to complain.

That is a more practical example of big brother if you ask me.

You have a literal agent of the government filming everyone in his vision. This isnt a database that goes unseen. It is seen with real eyes alongside the database. It moves with the purpose of government and law enforcement (literally following cars and individuals discriminately).

For the record, I am for police body cams as they protect the police more often than not.
And for those with compromised moral compasses (police are human), I think it helps encourage them to be true blue even when they may have made mistakes or are pending a questionable judgment call.

The difference is body cameras are the citizens ability to watch/criticize public servants every move, especially when they are given powers. The reverse should really not be the case. The same way a cop has to give me his badge number and name but I dont have to ID myself unless its a lawful order. I should always have more (law) protections than state or federal agents. That is how we keep people in power in check.
