He’s protecting Israel. Look at a map. Iran is of zero threat to America unless camels can cross several oceans. Iran is a threat to Israel. That’s Israel’s problem not ours.

That’s up to you. What you’ve said so far makes you look like a horses arse so I wouldn’t if I were you, but I suspect in your case it’s a pretty common look so…….

I think this is why they have been arming the Kurds for the past year. I'm not saying it won't take people on the ground. I'm HOPEFUL that those people on the ground aren't our guys.
Well, we’re going to find out. But we’ve been arming various Kurdish groups for about forty years with mixed results, so I’d be careful about declaring victory a week into anything.

I’m just urging caution with the premature celebrations. Some of the metrics people are using right now: crowds celebrating and the military collapsing, are the exact same ones used in the spring of 2003 when everyone was declaring “mission accomplished.”

That turned out to be a very bitter lesson. It wasted ten years of my life and cost a few friends of mine the remainder of theirs. So I tend to wait a little longer before calling something a success.

The Iranian people don’t have a way of fighting back because they are unarmed, mostly have no military or weapons training, and will be facing against forces like the Basij who are more than willing to mow down entire crowds of people. I just don’t see any realistic way to oust the regime without either major defections from the regular army (no sign of this) or tens of thousands US troops.

Eventually, the Artesh will rise up.
But they will wait until the odds are in their favor.

The Middle East isn't like the west. Loyalty is to strength. That is how the ayatollahs have stayed in power this long. Not being afraid to kill/maim 30,000 protestors.
Air raids and targeted attacks can turn the tide against the IRGC and the Basij.

When the Artesh rise up, they will be the force deciding the next steps for the country. Why wouldn't they want that for their people?

And Iran has mandatory military service. So the people are trained. They just don't have any arms more than basic hunting gear.

Solid post and your point is well taken

Things are off to an exceptionally good early start IMO.

I get the sense here in this room that the chest thumping is mostly in response to the doom and gloomers here who are equally bad or worse at coming to the opposite conclusion(s) this early on especially in light of the extraordinary early sucesses

Something for you to consider as I did with your post

I am. These same people would have cheered that debacle. I did, I learned my lesson.

Even if we beat their Navy and Air Force, their army is quite formidable as is their geography and population.

Even if their standing army is smashed, what then? Doesn’t matter I guess, the moment of right now is much more important.

I don’t think the Kurds are gonna do much outside of their own traditional territory. It could help if the IRCG comes to fight them and we can pummel them with air power. Rebellion could also spread across the country. Or if the regime were smart they’d just let the Kurds have their little sliver of northwest Iran and not engage so they can keep their army intact for other fights.

Same. And I'm not trying to declare victory here. But at the same time, it's hard to deny what we are seeing happen. The Iranian regime is already gone. They're on like the junior junior varsity squad of leadership already. Again, I don't think this will last very long. That is my utmost hope anyways, and so far I don't see much to make me think they won't hit their timeframe.

I think they have entirely different objectives here. The biggest difference between this and what happened post 9-11 is that Trump is telling us we are going to hit some objectives and get out. Whereas after 9-11 you had people like Rumsfeld and Bush saying that we might be in the middle east for 100 fricking years and that we were initiating a new crusade.

They aren't aiming for another forever war.

Don't look now but we're already a quarter of the way to proving them right.
