probably still have humans in the cockpit

I think there is a quote from Asimov, in one of his books that says something like when we get to this point of technology, that we would still need a Man.., and a Dog involved.

The Man would be there to feed the Dog. The Dog would be there to guard the equipment from the Man.

125 fighter jet dogfight

That would be awesome to see, all we had in our area of Afghanistan were the A10s and they were a sight to see and hear. I couldn't imagine a dogfight with that many aircraft in modern times

From what I have read the aircraft never got close to the other side's aircraft. From what I have read it sounds like 30ish Pakistani jets fired off an unknown Chinese made air to air missiles from beyond visual range at 70 or more Indian jets. The Indian jets returned fire with an unknown number of European made missiles. Both sides then retreated back further into their own airspace. Pakistan got at least 2 kills and possibly as many as 5 kills. India got none. It does not sound like there was much to see from the ground.

Maybe but that doesn't change the historical fact he posted. in the Mid 1960'ds assumptions just like these were made. Early variants of the F-4 Phantom didnt have a gun and got hammered. The USAF and Navy had gun pods put on their F-4 until later versions included it. And the F-22 and I think even the F-35 still carry a 20MM Vulcan

I agree with that because in the electronic jamming and stealth world now a days - that 20mm could be a game changer in a pinch

In the seventies I had a conversation with one of our fighter pilots while flying to Denver. He said the only other fighter pilots they would be concerned about would be the Pakistanis. Now that was 50 years ago. Not sure if that is true today.

Planes have IFF. So you shoot your missiles at the radar blips that your computer says are not friendly.

I don't believe he was too concerned about going to war with the Israelis.

PL-15's. If they are as successful as is being reported, this is a huge eye opener to the U.S. and NATO. There's been a lot of speculation on how well these new rocket powered missles fly. And these PL-15's aren't as advanced as the ones on the Chinese J-20's.

You may laugh - but the Pakistanis are talking like war is inevitable.
