“We have made the decision to close our In-N-Out location in Oakland, California, due to ongoing issues with crime,” the statement reads in part.

“Our Customers and Associates are regularly victimized by car break-ins, property damage, theft, and armed robberies.”

Bay Area, such a beautiful place to live.

California cities are such filthy, crime ridden, cesspool, shite HOLES, that even a massively successful burger joint can't make it.

San Francisco and Oakland have seen Trader Joe's, Walgreen's, Whole Foods, Safeway, and others jettison stores for the same reasons..

Despite the varying PC/Lies used to save face and political clout with Californians and Leftists that just don't like the stone cold truth.

People risked their lives to get to California before the dems ran it.
Now people risk all to leave it.
Yall can use that at the convention.

Was in California recently. Most of the state is overwhelmingly gorgeous, however . . .

Downtown San Francisco is awful. Amazing how one block can be fine and the next I witnessed a guy trying to get in someone’s car (while someone was in it), followed by a group of people shooting up.

No police presence at all.

I just don’t get how you can let such a beautiful city like SF get like this. Then again, I saw homelessness just about everywhere I went.

It is a beautiful place, but has been ruined by poor leadership.

No, you are the gullible one

Residents, frustrated with rising prices and lengthy wait times at stores for employees to unlock cabinets so they can purchase everyday items such as deodorant and toothpaste, have said they want to see changes made to Proposition 47, a decade-old ballot measure that classifies nonviolent property crimes that do not exceed $950 in value as misdemeanors.

The criminal penalty for nonviolent retail theft is typically up to six months of jail time, but critics claim that only a few offenders ever serve their full sentences, and many do not even show up to court. Proposition 47 also fails to target repeat offenders, critics have complained.

For a while, lawmakers ignored the problem. Now, under a national microscope and with big businesses relocating, they are desperate for a fix.

Newsom, a Democrat, announced a package of bills that addressed retail theft this month.

quote:

Lynn Melillo, who sits on the board of the California Grocers Association, said at a hearing last month that their “biggest” spending goes to security guards.

“It feels like there [are no consequences],” she said. “We feel we stand alone because we do call the police … they’re not always responsive.”
What the data do show is that overall felony retail theft was up 16% in 2022 compared with 2019. A closer look showed commercial burglary specifically was up 13%. Commercial robbery, which includes thefts in which force is used or threatened (like some smash-and-grab thefts), was up about 13% in that same time frame.

And when it comes to misdemeanor shoplifting, the data show a 29% spike in 2022 vs. 2019,

Organized retail theft wiped out several Alaska stores when we experimented with "catch and release."

Youre simply naive.

If it were only bad management, do you not think that would be easy for In'N'Out to solve, instead of closing the store?

The location and high crime rate probably make it impossible to hire a good management team, so the cause of failure is still the same. It's a shitty location full of shitty people.

Or workers who will not steal you blind. Retail theft costs 30+ billion dollars a year.

I suppose businesses not hiring armed security to stop "smash and grabs" could be considered bad management. So, they cleaned up the crime and homelessness overnight in Oakland and SF? I've not heard that.
