What are Louisiana’s laws? Voter ID is required. But what about ballot mail-ins? Did Louisiana actually have it right from the beginning or do we need to revise our laws like many other states?

We need to go back to voting on a single day, in person, with ID. Meet us at Sonic if you have a problem with that.

I thought LA was pretty good until I saw 2020 Presidential election and then remembered JBE got a late vote dump from New Orleans to win the seat.
Louisiana votes Trump at 65% but somehow JBE wins when the last Democratic cesspool turns in their ballots. Coincidence?

You must be new to Louisiana government and politics.

No, but until I saw Nov 2020 I have to say I never, ever thought any system in America could be as corrupt as what I witnessed in the last Presidential election.

Revisit down-ballot outcomes for the 2019 installation of JBE.
They don’t make much sense.
At the time, I chalked it up to an outcome of a regular political race reflecting the sentiments of roughly half the state.
Until November 2020.
Since then, his maniacal endorsement of COVID-mitigation mythology, tyrannical business closures, scientifically-baseless mask mandates, and an unyielding grip on special powers granted only under the presence of a public health crisis have helped bring JBE’s installation as governor into sharp focus.
I’d personally like to see an investigation of THOSE election details.

Consent decree with US Justice to make elections fair from racist whites.

I looked into getting a mail in ballot for my daughter who lives in Alabama but is still registered here in LA and not registered in AL. She did not qualify.
I dont know if they suspended the rules for Covid though.

Incumbent governors in Louisiana typically enjoy a huge advantage over challengers. If Katrina didn't happen, Kathleen Blanco likely not only chooses to run for re-election, she's probably re-elected.
Couple that with the fact that JBE's runoff opponent had no real grassroots movement and pretty much ran on a platform solely of "I like Trump".
It was no surprise JBE was re-elected. None at all.

We have had voter ID laws in Louisiana since , at least the late 90’s. There has been no disparity in turnouts between blacks and whites that can’t be explained by voter interest. If blacks are not interested , their turnout as a percentage is lower than whites( usually 8-10 percentage points) If their interest is high( think presidential election Obama 2012. White 69% black 67%), black turnout virtually matches whites. Voter suppression by requiring a voter ID is a canard foisted by liberal democrats, black and white , to keep unaware blacks voting Democrat. Simple as that.

JBE ran against a goober candidate. I could have beat Rispone.

Right. There are tons of state contractors with their employees that are not too super excited about voting for the incumbent but realize they need to vote for the incumbent to get that state project or next phase funded. When you see stuff like Republicans for JBE this is usually why.

Right.....why aren't the DEMS canceling Louisiana?
The answer is: LA is too RED, and not worth the fight for only 8 electoral votes!

JBE's reelection was on the up and up. Thirty five percent of the populace is black and will vote D at a 92% clip. Then you only need 20% of the remaining voters. Louisiana is not really that conservative. They cry when TOPS, a govt handout, is threatened. Combine that with incumbency of seemingly more conservative democrat and an empty opponent and you get JBE's reelection.

A candidate like JBE (white, rural, socially conservative-appearing Democrat) gets the benefits from the old time rural Louisiana Democrats that some "city slicker" limp-wristed Democrat or a black Democrat candidate won't get in Louisiana. Your old rural racist Democrat vote.
Those types of voters vote "R" in national election because they "don't like what Democrats represent", but still within the borders of Louisiana will still pull for Edwin Edwards style Democrats candidates, because according to many of them ole Eddie was the best thing ever for Louisiana.
That's how a Democrat like John Bel Edwards gets elected/re-elected, despite Louisiana being a state that votes 60% + for the Republican candidate in the President races.

Yet Rispone would have been so much better for the state of LA than JBE has been especially with COVID.

Exactly. Louisiana is a 1970s/1980s democrat, even 90s Clinton political state.
Talk about real cuts and people shite their britches.

Yep. But many people who only started paying attention since MAGA 2016 think the only way a JBE type could be elected in Louisiana is through machines changing ballots.

It will be interesting to see if having more people paying attention and getting involved makes any difference in Louisiana’s political landscape or reinforces established voting patterns and candidate choices.
