I’m going with Leslie Edwards and Bartholomew Hunt.

Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd. GOAT.
Then it’s René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de la Salle. Pure explorer archetype. Essential to Louisiana lore.
Close third is Hernán Cortés. His decision to scuttle the ships (“burn the ships!”) in his strategy to conquer the Aztecs is epic.

Dora was pretty solid but we all know Boots was the real brains of the operation

Whoever was the most brutal and savage is my favorite. Or whoever it was that loaded up all the gold and silver from Mexico and the boats ended up sinking once they got a few miles off shore because they put too much.
People that get triggered over explorers from 500 years ago are idiots those guys had balls of steel and were very smart men.

DeSoto and LaSalle, the real early ones that were exploring America when they didn't know what the heck was here. du Pratz was another one.

I guess Cortez could be an Explorer, but he was more of a conqueror than anything else. His full intent in the Mexico campaign was to conquer. So much so that Velasquez the governor in Havana had canceled Cortez's expedition because it was not the will of the crown to subjugation anymore native populations at the time.....but Cortez went anyway. He later did a little exploring into Honduras and he had set out an expedition that mapped Baja and the Gulf of California.
Same was true of Pizarro in Peru.

You can be smart and greedy at the same time.

True, but the actual smart and greedy people don't sink their own boats. (Unless they're insured for more than their value)
