Yes. Crossing the border is a misdemeanor - on par with a bad speeding violation or something like that.
So they just write you a ticket and send you on your way for crossing illegally?

There is a lot more public funding than just welfare. When they hop the border just to give birth on our dime, it’s not technically coming out of welfare. When they get paid under the table, use public services, send billions in wealth to Mexico on the form of remittance, and have their emergency medical expenses paid, it is coming out of our pockets even if it isn’t welfare.

They are most certainly immediately available for food stamps.
Technically, no. Illegal immigrants and even legal immigrants who haven't been here for 5 years (or meet an eligible alien exception such as being a refugee) are considered ineligible aliens and cannot receive SNAP for themselves.
However, any kids that they have with them are eligible. The problem happens because while the adult isn't eligible they aren't considered in the benefit household size and their income (if they report any) is prorated based on the total household size.
So a 3 person household (illegal mom and 2 kids) can be making ~$4500 a month and still receive SNAP because that $4500 is prorated to $1500 based on a household size of 3 and is below the gross income limit for a benefit household of 2.
So it's technically true that the illegal immigrant isn't receiving benefits but in reality they do.

Yes, also on par with domestic violence, assault, theft, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, DUI and burglary. These are all misdemeanors as well.

Actually, nothing at all like a speeding violation.
First time misdemeanor, second time felony.

Everyone should be pissed about tax dollars, a portion of our paychecks, going to illegals in some revenue stream.
A physical barrier will slow or impede the flow of illegals. The cost of it's construction is probably pennies to the dollar it costs to fund their benefits package.
Just think, an illegal obtained free healthcare and I had to dole out $15,000 plus last year just to say I had coverage for myself and family. How does that not piss off most?

I was going to link a story to corroborate your stance, but it was paywalled.

So I should feel good because I'm not an illegal? That makes up for our corrupt system?

Hey, dickhead, you asked a question. A guy with 10 years in Border Patrol answered your question and instead of thanking him, you switched tracks and went on a melt.
Don’t ask questions you don’t want answered.
Bitch move.

Having spent 10 years as a Border Patrol agent, let me tell you how this works. Person crosses illegally, pops out multiple children that are all instantly US citizens. The mother may not be eligible for welfare but the children are entitled to the full package and the mother is given $1000+ in food stamps and welfare, along with WIC, housing subsidies, etc. And that's if they're doing it legally. That doesn't account for those that steal others' identities.

quote:I think there are rational steps that can be taken to address some of what is wrong at the southern border. However, I view a wall as hysterical. I liked it better when it was just a symbolic way to contrast with the absurd left and their "borders are racist" stance. Insisting on an actual wall, IMO, is an overplay of a strong hand which could be bad for Trump.
Fair enough.
