Have to give you a downvote ALT Thrashers 8.

I love books, movies, magazines, and all preservative means of knowledge.

I think libraries should collect, preserve, and present the required information upon request by citizens.

But modern libraries have decided that THEY should become teachers of youth. Sorry but no.

The teaching of children is the responsibility of the child’s parents or guardians, a role given by God and enshrined in our Constitution. THEY can subcontract this to a school of their choosing. They can also withdraw their patronage if they are unhappy in any way.

What libraries put in their CHILDREN’S section MUST meet the standards of the parents. If not, the parents have the Constitutional right to seek redress from their government that is funding and abetting the offending material. If enough demand a reduction in library funding or removal of selected materials from CHILDREN’S perusal, then that is Constitution democracy in action.

You are conflating ADULT Constitutional Rights and freedoms with the limited rights and freedoms of CHILDREN! Shame on you!

You mentioned 1984. Did you read it? If so, perhaps you should reread it, because you appear to be on the wrong side. You also wrote “gay” and “chicks with dicks”, a prime example of Newspeak! A very large percentage of homosexuals are not gay, and chicks do not have dicks.

For those who haven’t read 1984, Newspeak is a controlled language of simplified grammar and restricted vocabulary designed to limit the individual's ability to think and articulate "subversive" concepts such as personal identity, self-expression and free will. Such concepts are criminalized as thoughtcrime since they contradict the prevailing orthodoxy.

I urge those who haven’t read 1984 to go to their local libraries and check it out. We all should demand that it be required reading in the high schools our children attend.

The library system in Natchitoches Parish gets double the amount of money than the Parish gets to maintain and repair roads. We have some of the worst roads in the entire state, but hey, if your kid needs to rent a Halloween costume you can go get one at the library. Maybe we can fill the potholes with all of the unread books sitting on the library shelves.

When you do something that is going to piss off at least half of your tax base, don’t be surprised when they respond with cutting half of your budget. Tell your government employed librarian friends to stay away from controversial “political” stances and maybe politics will leave them alone.

Amen. Public libraries are essential. The argument libraries are obsolete is such a sad commentary on our understanding of human nature. Yes the content is online. But humans are endowed with five senses and crave community. The textures and smells and lighting of a library are part of how we absorb and engage with the content.

Plus where are hobos going to masturbate without public library bathrooms? You think the homeless are bad now, just wait until they haven’t gotten their rocks off in weeks. Shutting down libraries has significant negative externalities for us all.

Is it true that librarians are hot in bed?

"C'mon, baby, put your card in my slot!"

"Open my cover!"

"You wanna' check out this?"

Aren’t you a liberal?

If so, your party wants to destroy and has already destroyed thousands of monuments and history all across the country in 2020-2021 and ongoing.

This is Marxism at its finest, if you destroy history, people will never know nor question what true freedom is. They blame it on slavery etc… but it’s a bunch of horse shite! If we applied the reasons they use to do this in the USA, it would be such a slippery slope that we’d have to erase EVERYTHING! Double Standards everywhere.
And what they are teaching to our kids in school and creating new history books, yes, I DO NOT SUPPORT ANY PUBLIC LIBRARIES, PERIOD!

It’s a one-sided narrative; screw all Gov’t paid jobs, I don’t want my tax money going to any public employees. Go cut the fat out of other programs, and quit crying to this board and go get a real private sector job.

No offense to you personally as I don’t know you, but I don’t care what liberals think anymore. The time of reasoning with liberal blowhards is over, your either with us or against us at this point.

Go stack your communist books!

Libraries and the police department are the only functioning public services in all of New Orleans. We love our libraries here.

Through Interlibrary Loan, you can access history: the books that were written just after the Civil War, the discussions of what was going on in D.C. as Wilson was incapacitated, etc.

Some of those can be retrieved through Google books if you know how to download their information.

The problem with the active internet is that is links the heck out of what happened yesterday; it is all but worthless for what happened in 1902

Well, looks like you haven't read it, or you don't understand it.

I don't trust the government to be the gatekeeper of knowledge. If public libraries were sustainable you could charge a fee and people would come. Of course academic libraries at universities and on school campuses are different, but honestly are still outdated. Everything is available online.

Your Dewey decimal degree is still trash.

I would agree with you but then we would both be wrong.
