Actually quite the opposite. I did more research on the Mexican-American war here:
LINK
Well, Grok did the research.

Anyhow, I found it interesting that in Mexico's eyes, we took California and more of Texas due to dispute.
Mexico might wanna be careful, we'll take more if ya keep running your lil mouths.

How long do you think it'd remain a top 8 economy if granted to Mexico or forced to stand on its own?

Depends on what its relationship with the US would be as that would determine how much it had to invest in defense spending to go solo.

The EU for example has been able to greatly exceed its baseline standard of living by pushing its defense responsibilities onto the US vis-a-vis NATO.

If CA was a US protectorate or something on favorable or neutral terms they'd probably do better in the short term until the weight of their high taxes, left leaning voter base and climate related policies dragged them back down below their current baseline within a decade.

If they had to build up an armed services function from scratch they'd have a very tough time fiscally until they got up to speed.

China would station troops in California and have Chinese ships in port.

No way California is ever going to be part of Mexico or even independent.

More likely scenario, the US military drives out all foreign invaders at some point.

Can you name the largest port in North America?

ETA: (it's in California)

depends on how you measure. If you go by tonnage, it is Port of Houston. 4 of the top 5 are on the Gulf Coast.

Why do we want to give up any portion of America? Yes there are idiots there and other places but there are good people there too. The MAGA doesn’t mean give back part of America. We have to fight to get it back right not give our country away.

Nah. Sheinbaum would bend over backwards and act like a contortionist whore if that were to pass. Wanna see cartels disappear? Tell Sheinbaum she can control the Pacfic Coast all the way up to Oregon. She'd be a prostitute going door to door at discount rates....and she'd tell her army and Marines to rock n roll on the cartels

Would not happen, Companies would flee before the change.

That's true but the land and natural resources won't move. America is a super powerful largely because of our geography and resources. Not just private companies. Losing California would be a massive loss. And in the event that all of these companies and their employees flee the state and the rest of the country has to absorb them real estate would be completely unaffordable. And it's already the least affordable in history.

CA is easily the most frustrating place I've visited. Incredible natural advantages, massive modernized economy, great food, some of the best tourist destinations in the world and beautiful women. Yet somehow every time I go the locals find ways to screw up what should easily be the best state in the nation. Visit wine country? Rolling blackouts. Go to Malibu? Fires have wiped areas out last two visits. Hit the beach in LA? homelessness and trash. Tech conference in SF? Crime, trash and junkies to step over at 9am. Its like meeting a girl who looks like a supermodel, gets a perfect score on the ACT and yet makes terrible life choices and is an insufferable narcissist. So much wasted potential.

It’s such an unbelievably beautiful and ecologically diverse state. When I worked in SD county I’d see the desert, the mountains, the wildflowers/hills, and the ocean all on the same day often. To be able to have a warm day at the beach and a cool night going out to dinner was amazing growing up down here.

I’d live there in a second if it wasn’t batshit insane.

Reagan’s dumbass amnesty EO was the beginning of the end for California. I applaud Trump for trying to tackle that behemoth, but we need to just declare California a territory like Puerto Rico.
