re: I'm not marksman, but I've done some shooting. A 125 yard head shot with a moving target

It’s not that hard. Rifles are usually capable of much more than the person handling them.
For someone who practices at that distance it’s not that difficult
For someone who has even taken a week at the range at Parris Island and shoots at least Sharp Shooter badge, it's a cake walk from that distance.
Bottom line, you can never give up a spot like this and allow this to happen.

He had maybe a second or two between breaching his concealment to fire a shot. He was a 20 years old progressive dipshit and people were yelling at him for at least 20-30 seconds before he started shooting.
That was probably a good shot for him.
This country came within 2cm away from major upheaval. Thank God Trump turned his head. Thank God that secret service sniper could adjust his sights fast enough to take this guy out before he got even more shots off.
I don’t understand how one of only a half dozen rooftops within 200 yards of Trump wasn’t secured. The SS sniper had to retrain his sights because the shooter was so damn close. And he wasn’t walking around with a rifle looking for a roof. How did he know that one was not being watched? How did he get access to that?

So a trained marksman couldn't miss if the target moved his head at the last second?
As an aside: True long range snipers use calibers that take that into account. For instance, if a .50 Cal missed Trump’s head by grazing his ear, half of Trump’s head would still have come off.

I've shot running deer at 250 yards
Subtle brag..

I've not made any incredible shots in 50 years of deer hunting, mainly because I wait for a good shot. I'm better than most (proven). And yes I have missed by inches on many occasions. Most of the time I still made the kill but I have had some clean misses for sure.

Yep. 120 yards is not even close to long range. In my mind, long range starts at 500 yards. He was also in a prone position which allows a shooter to take full advantage of natural body alignment, best body padding positioning for recoil and natural breathing control.

Taking a headshot at 125 yards with 556 is amateurish as frick

I think this is my biggest problem with it all. If we cannot cover a space adequately, for a potential sitting president, why in the world are we moving forward with the event as it was set up.
These rallies will only get bigger, will take place in short time spans, and invite greater divide the closer we approach Election Day.

Those factors are what makes it amateurish imo. He had no patience, breathing, or discipline. He got lucky asf to somehow get up there and get it off though. Many security failures and unfortunately people died because of the failures.

why do this?
Because it was a 9 pt with a 13 inch G2.
Dumb

The shot was perfect. By the grace of God Trump turned his head.

I'm not convinced (yet) Trump was impacted by an intact projectile or that the ear hit was a precisely aimed shot.
More likely shrapnel/splash from bullet fragments hitting the metal bleachers, stage, or something else. I believe this is consistent with the angle of fire somewhat behind the stage/bleachers.
When a bullet hits s something hard it shatters into thousands of pieces. Even a small fast moving fragment could have caused the bleeding from his ear.
The first 3 shots sounded slower and aimed and then there was 5 successive pot shots before you hear the two suppressed counter sniper shots.

That shot, with a rest, is actually easy for someone with little experience.

I’ve shot in competitive long distance matches, with some amazing groups, and some, not so great groups. I shoot fairly often and have 10’s of thousands of dollars in my gear. This was any easy shot by the logistics, but, the emotional changes, the fear of dying, his heart rate, people screaming at him, Trump moving, taking a human life….making that shot isn’t as easy as it sounds..

I think you'll see more smaller events held at airport facilities/hangars.
Much easier to control and cordon off the area and being airside it is already controlled space.
There were a lot of these airport events in the 2016 campaign.

He only missed because Trump moved his head

Oswald sure put that bullet(s) on a moving target. Which leads me to say - if someone wants to assassinate the President it’s darned near impossible to prevent. Best you can do is secure the likely points from which to shoot. That roof top was left unsecured. I hope President Trump hires his own security team. I’ll say it - IMO the SS has been compromised. There I said it.

If the photo/video still going around isn't doctored, you can literally see the bullet travelling in the background.

It doesn’t take a SS agent to be posted on the roof- just have a regular LEO on the roof - this was an immense security failure or purposely done
