Yea, but I also don't want to drill ANOTHER hole through the brick.

If I had a vertical step in a ceiling somewhere I'd already have a mini split, but mine are vaulted.

Refrigerant grade Propane.

I know someone that runs regular propane in his heat pump.

Thing blows HOT in the winter no matter the outdoor temps.

It works well in summer too.

Just installed a 16 SEER unit over a 14 for this very reason.

I'm not a tech but...

your perfectly good air handler will not be compatible with the 16 SEER condensor.
I don't think that's completely accurate

You should not be able to pass laws or regulations restricting air conditioning unless you live in the very Deep and humid South:

Nothing says "progressive" like ignoring a century of chemistry development to use an inefficient refrigerant that abandoned from use half a century ago.

Party of science.
Trust the political science.

I did the math on the benefit to cost on 18 v 14 v 16seer.
My electricity bill was too low to benefit from the upgrade. The payback was essentially the life expectancy of the system.
Factor in, time value of money....
Not worth it.

It buys you more comfort by often using variable compressor... but with multiple systems in my house essentially serving the same purpose, thats a moot point.
It's not worth the premium that may be valuable to a house with just a single unit.

Almost hooked me in with the headline “I’m hearing bad news about Biden…“.

Really thought the old guys health had gone south.

Mini splits have a condensate drain line that you either route outside through a wall or connect into a vent stack or other drain within the house.

Not sure if that would qualify as bad news

I didn't think of that one.

You should be able to change just the evaporator coil attached to the end of the air handler, and keep the air handler/heater itself.

The ozone hole fraud started all of this and its done nothing but cost regular folks tens of thousands of dollars. Magically we never hear about it destroying the world anymore. And fricking up the light bulb is just as bad. These people will never stop tormenting us because they do so with the approval of their own conscience..to quote the great CS Lewis

I haven't seen anything on SEER 14 getting phased out.

Regardless, as long as you stay with the same manufacturer you should be able to replace the inside or outside unit separately. Just check with the manufacturer for compatability.

What the hell are they using that flammable?

its a less refined lower grade of propane then they sell in the bottles but just as flamable

if your house is on fire the a/c unit can now explode and kill you before the fire will

Talked to a friend yesterday and she had her AC unit replaced.. inside and out.. Don't what ton but I would imagine it was a 4 ton.. Her house is about 1700 SQ ft.. She got a 16 ser and it was $8000... My guy quoted me 2 years ago $6000.. And he is expensive..

I was THIS close to buying a ton at cost last year to finish my bonus rooms.

Same unit today is 50% more.
