Yeah I've said the same thing over and over. If he'd sit back and wait until 2028, he'd have 2028 Republican nomination locked up like Newsom does for the Dems. He doesn't realize the RINOs egging him to run don't actually want him to win; they just want him damaged so that he isn't a factor in 2028. I hope he at least gets a new house or two from the establishment for running against Trump.

Do you seriously believe the same shite would have been pulled if a democrat was in office? So we’re talking about how effective Trump beat back the lies, distortions, etc., and how did he do? Within months he was lobbying for more spending than what was proposed by Pelosi and trying to get Thomas Massie kicked out of the Republican Party for not going along with all the spending.

Yeah but you have to have perspective here. I don't want to derail this thread but every move Trump did that WAS right got shot down by Democrat federal judges all over the place.
Would the COVID bullshite be better or worse if those federal judges had actually let the US ban travelers from China? I believe it worked be far better. But they couldn't help themselves.
When dealing with COVID everyone wanted Trump to act like a dictator and that's just not the way it works.
It's a once in a lifetime event. We all learned from this by watching what people like DeSantis did right in his state, Noem in her state and on down the line.

What?? Trump didn't even want to bring it out there. I think his defense was he didn't want to create mass panic, and got hammered by Democrats for not acting fast enough and letting people know what was going on.

Who is that exactly? It's mostly former Trump money behind DeSantis. The last job Karl Rove had in politics was working on Trump 2020. No Bushes anywhere to be found. Last time DeSantis talked to Ryan they were in the House together (oh, and DeSantis opposed Ryan as Speaker).
Trump was celebrating how his endorsement of Mitch Freaking McConnell's former Chief of Staff won in Kentucky, haven't seen him that excited since he endorsed Mitt Romney back in '18.
I will give Trump credit, he has learned the Dem tactic of accusing your opponent of what you are doing.

The Google search of FDA still shows the top link to caution against using HCQ, AS THE FIRST LINK! The corrupt FDA also bitched about Ivermectin, calling it horse paste, just like our corrupt media. This has already happened to a large degree. Since he hasn't yet announced, there's technically still time.
Desantis was recruited to run this cylce by the people that hate Trump. Their goal is to keep Trump from winning.
It was always going to be very, very hard for Desantis to beat Trump. And, IMO, he hasn't campaigned in the one way that he had a chance. Just as importantly, it was going to be even harder (almost impossible) to beat Biden because by running against Trump, he was going to guarantee that he didn't get the Trump base voters.
It never made sense for him to run. But, he's running anyway. And, you are right. The GOP is throwing away a guy who had a very positive brand and a very positive future.
It's another sign that things that we think should be obvious aren't. If you assume the goal of the GOP is to win elections and gain control of the federal government, you are probably very wrong.

Desantis knows his only realistic shot is 2024, so it's all or nothing this cycle, regardless.
This "wait until 2028" strategy is irrational. If Trump wins, no GOP candidate has a show in 2028. If Trump loses, hell, he may run again in 2028. It's also likely a legit Trump sycophant, like a Kari Lake, gets the MAGA wing in 2028 regardless, and RDS is in the same position without the luster of recent success.
It has always been 2024 or bust for RDS.
