If you possess a bump stock after March 2019, you will be breaking the law.

What is the purpose of a bump stock? Why would anyone choose to have one?

Never really wanted a bump stock but when this is overturned by the SC I'm getting one.....make that 2

Modifications to guns that do nothing but increase the rate of fire so as to abrogate the prohibition on automatic weapons.
There’s a pretty common sense difference.

My buddy the gun nut told me that it's easy to make your own bump stock. If you don't have to purchase one it will be hard to catch people.

There are limits to every right.
The government has already infringed on gun rights a great deal. You cannot own automatic weapons produced after a certain time, machine guns, etc. You also cannot own a 16’ naval gun or a trident missile.
This is no different than any of that. The stocks allow the weapon to ostensibly fire automatically, or at an accelerated rated of fire. Those things are already illegal.

Clearly not.
The prohibition of bump stocks isn’t doing anything to your rights. It’s reclassifying an accessory whose only purpose is to abrogate existing law.
