Cops were way too aggressive but no way you can say Nichols was complying. He was tense and kept trying to get up. If he had just laid down he would be alive today and on the way to filing a fat lawsuit. Now his families will just get a lot of money, a lot of Memphis cops are going to leave or retire, and crime in black areas of Memphis will skyrocket with many more people dying when cops refuse to police those areas. Ben Crump has killed more black men with his lawsuits than the police ever have.

Have you watched the video of the cops holding him up, handcuffed, while the other cop delivered haymakers to his head?

Too aggressive???? Where was he not complying at that point?

My sig quote is from a Jason Boland song, a good Oklahoma baw. "Pushing Luck" is a great song.

quote:

The sun's comin' up, I got a dog in my face
The man on the leash says this is his place
Funded by the money they took from you and me
We're payin' these fools to put us on our knees

Was he complying when they were kicking him in the head? How about when they held him steady so Officer Lunchbox could throw a right hook on him?

There are way too many people who fight with the cops but NOTHING about that 'stop' looked right. Mob hit is more accurate.

He clearly didn’t comply in the early videos. You can’t say he was complying just because they finally got cuffs on him. That doesn’t justify striking him after he was finally cuffed but the resistance early on clearly did not calm the situation. Did you not see the part where he got up and ran away? I guess you think that was complying.

The stop was likely bullshite but I’ve had bullshite stops too. I did what I was told and didn’t get dragged out of my car.

There was clearly excessive force but that doesn’t mean Nichols wouldn’t still be alive if he hadn’t freaked out and ran. Everybody was wrong in this situation.

Did you have multiple cops screaming at you with guns drawn within 5 seconds of being stopped like this guy did?

The rumors that this was personal make sense.

You will have to point out the point where he listened to the cops to turn over on his belly and give them his hands….

I’ll wait

Was it though? In the initial stop, he refused to get on his stomach and give up his hand after repeatedly told to do so. The guy was definitely not cooperating.

What’s the best way to visually determine compliance when multiple other hands are either pushing or pulling in possibly different directions?

Once he is on the ground you can hear him being told again to get on the ground. He was on the ground either by his own will or by force. That would have been a great time to start cuffing or have the cops agree to put him in a prone position.

Didn’t seem like the cops were on the same page.

I actually did have a situation where 3 cops were being total assholes telling a group I was in to disperse immediately from a public area. I asked for the officers badge number and he instead yelled that I would be arrested immediately for refusing a lawful command. I left. I didn’t get arrested or shot. Cop was completely in the wrong but I didn’t want to prove a point by going to jail. I called to complain that night and the commanding officer refused to take a complaint because I didn’t have the cops names….even though there were only 3 of them there and I clearly described the a-hole. Cops were clearly in the wrong but I’m also alive.

I said earlier in this thread he complied up until the point of running away

So here you are, you have 5 cops viciously screaming at you. They’ve already thrown you out of the car into the road. Every time they scream a command at you and you start to do it, it’s wrong. They start screaming commands at you that you’ve already done. They scream worse and worse, they are starting to hold you down.

At this point, even though multiple are on you, and nothing you do that they ask is making it better, in fact worse, they begin pepper spraying you and tasing you.

What are you supposed to do in that situation? Compliance has gotten you nowhere, and it’s getting worse. Do you comply right up to the moment a bullet is lodged in your skull?

Just give it up, you'll never convince the people who think it's the dead guy's fault otherwise. At this point, you just have to agree to disagree.

Had he started beating you then and there, and you ended up dying, we would have talked about a couple of weeks later how had you complied you would be alive.

Did you not see the part before he fled? Remember the context is a traffic stop. You know how those normally go down, right? Sir, please stay in your car (because of traffic)? Or sir, please exit the vehicle and give me your license?

Again, if you are attacked by a pack of wild dogs, are you going to sit there and take it, or are you going to try to get away?

Just like the kid that got shot and killed by a cop in a hotel out in AZ a couple years ago.

btw-That cop was acquitted. My mind was blown.

Kid was on his knees with his hands up and got blown away for not "following commands".
