Well in that case a criminal conviction would inappropriate. Right?

That's cute.

It wasn't meat to be.

Just seems you have the guy 6 steps up the gallows already. Meanwhile, if the stories are correct (a big if), the prosecution is so shakey it is risking criminal actions to lever its case. Something simply doesn't smell right.

Apparently Trump supporters now love war and war crimes. Amazing.

You used the word psychopathic. Reading the reporting it couldn’t be more cold- blooded or brutal. I would suggest the term Battle fatigue or snapped. His country asked too much of him and he snapped. Maybe a little mercy is in order here. Maybe we make a little investment back into a guy who did so many years of heavy lifting. Maybe we have a little compassion for a guy who crossed the line. Considering the nature of the war I’d say that’s a defensible position. You show mercy because he's already been punished and there is so much grey area surrounding the tactics of the enemy. Like the wide latitude we gave American soldiers who fought the Japanese. We take into account the nature of the enemy and how it effects the psychology of our soldiers and sail-ladies.

Since I doubt that the 7+ members of his unit who have provided testimony are straight up lying and that the 5+ who are pleading the 5th to avoid testifying aren't likely have damning information as well, I do tend to think that he's guilty of something. That's not marching him up the gallows.

If you read the accusations against him, this isn't the type of person you pardon before a public airing of the facts (a trial).

Based upon what's currently known or alleged, do you think he shouldn't stand trial?

All Chief Gallagher's fellow SEALs (as in the guys who were in his unit and deployed with him) say the guy was a psychotic PoS, but if you don't support him, you just don't understand warfare and are un-American.

Trump knows his audience.

Gallagher is a traitor and deserves firing squad. Burn him

Well I say try him. And then burn him if need be.

I imagine some of the spirited, fire-breathing defense of this action will peter out once people take a goddamn second to read up on this case.

As someone who has not served, do any of you pre-2008 armed services members feel that battlefield training has changed since the Obama-era? How much of this could boil down to the way old school battle-hardened badasses operate as opposed to their new-school Rules of Engagement and cerebral warfare focused compatriots operate?

I agree with Navy here. If that many in his own unit are against him, he at least needs to stand trial.

Agree with requiring a trial before pardon is even considered. All I know is what is in this thread. If allegations are true he certainly doesn’t deserve a pardon. But we need to air out both sides of the case.

But I will vote for Trump against any DEM regardless of the outcome of this case.

I do not require perfection from anyone.

A bunch of candyass rules of engagement is why we got kicked around by the VC.

The POS Gallagher offed would have done the same to him in a heartbeat. When fighting barbarians you fight like a barbarian.

Or you end up pussyfooting around in these shitholes for decades. Just like we have been.

Are you saying we should accept confiscatory tax policies, more bureaucracy, and regulation on targeted industries like energy, and more divisive identity politics because of a character flaw, then yes. It is objectively worse for our country to vote the other way. If there were Democrat candidates that were actually moderate, this is a different story. There are no lefty Mitt Romneys.

Agree! EIGHT deployments, several bronze stars with valor, saved many lives. That right there is punishment enough .
