We would have probably invest more in alternative energy, have less pollution, better schools, lower imprisonment rates. Also, we'd be overall wealthier bc we could heavily tax big business and we could legalize and tax rec marijuana resulting in a surplus of funds like Colorado to devote to schools and infrastructure.

The conservate grip on Louisiana has really not improved this state. The conservative agenda has rendered this state stagnant.

Downvote if you can't tell your arse from your elbow and you have no idea what's in the best interest of this state.

If there were no private ownership and all companies were nationalized, the world would be a utopia.

LA politics is so corrupt it looks like it'll never recover and catch up with the rest of the union

Is their enough rich people to steal from to accomplish that in Louisiana?

There are only 2 factors to avoiding poverty

1- finish high school
2- stay married

Boom. You are 95% likely to be middle class regardless of race or creed.

What did the democrats do for the 100 years in charge before Republicans took over?

Louisiana has some of the best solar tax credits in the nation.
We have free healthcare and free textbooks for all of our children. Our medicare expansion and charity hospital (what's left of it) gives free medical care to just about anyone who needs it. We have free college tuition for every student who can meet the minimalist of requirements.

Louisiana was a blue state until 2000 and has a blue governor now. If you add up all of the democrats and former democrats in the state legislature, they would have an overwhelming majority. Senators Kennedy and Cassidy were both dyed in the wool democrats not 10 years ago. The black caucus in the legislature is as big an impediment to medical marijuana and microbreweries as the GOP. Despite that, medical marijuana was passed and is in the stages of getting implemented.

Don't give me this "red state" crap. We're a purple state that is socially conservative on some issues and too broke and corrupt to function on others.

Not much would be different for you except for higher property taxes.

Um, Louisiana WAS a blue state for most of its history, and as recently as 1996. It elected its first GOP majority legislature less than 10 years ago and its first Republican US Senator less than 15 years ago. The current governor is a Democrat.

The state also isn't hurting for revenue. It has a ton of pet projects that aren't allowed to be cut and it has more public universities than Florida.

The majority of air pollution comes from Texas and river pollution comes from 30+ other states. No state government can stop that.

Investing in alternative energy would be colossally stupid for Louisiana. It's a direct competitor to oil and gas.

Could you imagine being a blue state with all the corruption LA has. Had never thought about it but it could easily be bankrupt.

Louisiana's legislature was controlled by democrats from the end of reconstruction until 2008 and has had a democratic governor for 126 out of the past 144 years.

See New Orleans and Baton Rouge. They're doing well with their democratic leaders right?

Current governor is a democrat. Governor before Jindal was a democrat. New Orleans and Baton Rouge are both democrat strongholds with democrat mayors.
