I have lost a shite ton of respect for the actual rules and grounds that the forefathers have set up. It basically came down to the first clown show of a party to weaponize it for their own political gains for it to show what horrible framework this had.

House should have to have 2/3rds to send a “recommendation for impeachment” to the senate. Likewise, there should be an immediate vote from senate on whether to hear and have a trial. If a trial happens and 2/3rds convict, THEN they should be considered impeached and removed.

The term impeach carries way more politically and very little in actuality. Lesser charges should be censure.

The Democrats have turned this in to a political weapon; they announced their intentions to impeach the day after the election. Shameful.

I like that idea a lot on first pass. I'll ponder it some.

i had a similar topic drafted but deleted it. This is a clown show. Most unprofessional trial i have ever witnessed. I feel like i'm watching a college administrative review. To allow councils to fully lie and for senators to ask questions unrelated to the "trial" in forms of "gotchas" should show every citizen we should do everything we can to limit the power of our govt. there is no way you should trust any of them.

Almost makes you wonder if cheapening the process is a calculated part of their plan to do so.

You probably should have said convict where you said indict there.

I assume what you're saying is the first immediate senate vote would be to indict/formally impeach, then following the trial, the second vote would be to convict.

I think that would remove too much perceived power from the house to ever get traction, but I like the idea of a vote on merit in the senate before any additional effort and time is wasted.

It’s pretty crazy when you think about it. They are trying to impeach the President of the United States and most people are not even paying attention. As serious as this should be you would think that every single American would be glued to the television watching every moment. Just goes to show where we are as a country. People are too complacent in their lives to even care.
That’s how you know that this Republic is almost lost. There are not enough people who even care anymore. They think it is there god given right to live in a such a place as this and never realize how special of a place in the world that it actually is.

Example #1

Sen. Harry Reid’s nuclear option - What could go wrong?

It changed the game forever for the Dems and became their worst nightmare.

Peach Mint will follow suit. Dems can thank the Shitt show for this one.

I think a big part of that is most people know there is no way he's getting removed.

They know the charges are crap.

I do feel 50% in the House is way to easy of a threshold to get in a two party system. If it’s that serious it shouldn’t be hard to pull some from the other side.

The Dems were this close to trying the same shite against GWB too. This crap goes beyond revenge for the Clinton impeachment, this is how the Dems will try to operate moving forward whenever they have the House and a Republican POTUS is in place. Of course this is more noticeable with Trump as POTUS and a progressively nuttier set of Dems but let's not forget that this is not new.

There was a point in time where Dems had enough dignity to stand down on the low hanging fruit temptation to run with Impeachment with a simple House majority but that cap has eroded, and with a known complicit media in tow, this will happen again.

When folks say generically that this will happen again they try to say both sides will attempt this. I say BS. The Repulucans will wait for something legit...at least those who I vote for better not stoop to the Dem gutter politic level, so in reality I think moving forward this will be a Dem House maneuver against a sitting Republican POTUS phenomenon primarily. Don't believe this equivalence crap being tossed out like it will be a sham impeachment by a party aside from the Dems. That's not happening. The Republican voters and the media will see to that not happening but it will most certainly happen by the Dems again.

New norm? They have brought impeachment votes to the floor of the house for every R President since at least Reagan.

I agree. If we're going to pretend like "being impeached forever" means anything other than the president happens to have at least one less shared-party rep than the opposition, we need to make an effort to make it bipartisan.

The next Dem President that try’s the Adam Shitt stuff Obama did, that arse is getting In Peached. You won’t see it the next cycle but it’s coming.

To be fair to the framers, the standard of high crimes and misdemeanors is still the standard. Just because the Dems ignored it, doesn’t mean they had a bad framework.

I do agree that it should be a high 2/3rd threshold for both bodies. That’ll all but eliminate partisan impeachment.
