If growth is so good, why don’t affluent areas want it?

If the track homes and apartments that are flooding the South are such a good thing, as many of our slobbering politicians think, then why are affluent areas pushing for the same thing?

I mean, this is wonderful:

I would live in a van down by the river before I lived in a neighborhood like that.

That's similar to where our vets lived when they returned from WWII to marry their sweetheart. The alternative was living with her parents until you had money for a nicer house.

I hate that shite. It turns into a breeding ground after 10 years.

Greedy developers and contractors are ruining nice tracts of land.

In general cities are either growing or in decline. It’s hard to stay stagnant and not be in decline. Affluent neighborhoods and cities are the exception. Everywhere else can be bettered by infill.

Yes I would. I don’t want you as a neighbor.

Locally, st Tammany parish is a prime example of all growth not being good growth

Yes - it definitely needs a ton of apartments, cheap neighborhoods, more big box stores and fast food/fast casual restaurants

I used to live in a neighborhood like that. I'd prefer living in an older neighborhood now

Most of the new stuff is going that direction unless you're getting into huge mansions

Except the houses were 1/3 that size, often not air-conditioned, and with far poorer appointments.

Why don’t we encourage them to build real towns with a grid system so they don’t need a car to do every little thing?

And many of the houses are still here.

What will those DR Horton shitboxes be like in 80 years?

Lived in one of those for 25 years while we made our fortune.

It is a lot better than living in an apartment, and its is a safer place to raise a family.

Perpetually single narcissists who want to live in crime infested downtown areas are not the people buying those homes.

Now I live in a house on a hilly conifer forested 3 acre plot 10 miles from a small/medium sized town.

Went back to visit friends, and now I wonder how i ever lived there.
