u picked the wrong board to drop that kinda wisdom on.
Wow, you throw the word wisdom around very lightly.
We should all take the advice of someone that almost abbreviates the word "you", then throws a kinda in for good measure.

The best lie is the most believable one. Case in point there is a remarkable story from WW2 of Juan Pujols. He was Spanish and hated the nazis. He wanted to stop hitler, so he offered to spy for the Brits ...who turned him down (repeatedly) he then goes to the germans and offers to spy for them...eventually they agree IF he can make his own way to London. Pujols set of...to Lisbon. There he starts fabricating plausible spy reports...as if he is in London. He gets details wrong, but the Germans in the desire for him to be right..overlook and accept his lies. One day he makes up a perfectly plausible lie about ships heading to Malaga. He was off on quantity and date but by accident he managed to come close to the truth. This got the british attention. Pujol then decides to try to convince the Americans to convince the Brits to let him spy for them.
At that point the brits were looking for him and accepted his offer...he then spent the rest of the war in London running multiple teams of completely made up informants that were giving the germans just enough dated truth to maintain credibility but utterly useless information. On D Day...he tells his nazi handlers that Normandy is not the main assault. Nothing he ever wrote was useful...either outdated or an outright lie, but it was so close to what could seemingly be true...throw in a willing victim (german abwhere station in madrid) that they bought it hook...line..sinker. Pujols got several hundred thousand from the germans to run these fictional rings...he got a german pension for the made up widow of a made up informant that died...and in the end Pujols got an Iron Cross. (And german tank divisions waiting on pas de calais) lies are easy to believe when they have just detail to seem believable. No one would believe " oh
.we were the only ones there" throw in a detail that you dont have to prove or they cant disprove and...you get a pension for a non existent widow..or a teen groping

Tldr.
But tell me, the current day characters correspond to which of the characters in your story?

... to be more credible.
Why did it take her more than 6 hours to pass a lie detector for 2 yes no questions? Who does this the day after their grandmother passes?
why did she lie about fear of flying? boyfriend of 6 years said she flew all the time and loved to travel...
why did she lie about the two doors on her house? She claimed it was from a phobia being locked behind a door, muh Kav style.
Why does she work for a university that pushes women's rights?
why is roe vs wade being discussed so much now just because of a new Court judge? Judge don't rewrite history...
Congress does that part...
Ford doesn't talk like that little girl in real life.
she was fraud big time...

Because she lied would be my guess. Her alleged "witness" had no idea what Ford was talking about and could not corroborate Ford's story.

Because now you have a place, his house, her house, a public place.
A random house during a random month of the year at a random people? Well, how could you poke a hole in that?
EDIT: Also it helped having guests there, his random male friend broke the supposed rape in progress up. If he wasn't there she'd either have to claim she fought him off or he actually raped her - drastically escalating the story.
