10% sales tax on everything except food, housing, utilities and medical

This would be fair to everyone. Everyone would have skin in the game. No filing taxes. No taxes coming out your check except social security.

I think best method is a 20% sales tax with 10% going to state and 10% federal and no income taxes

Alexander Hamilton says your number is too low...

He didn’t go for income, but he was big on taxation to fund the government.

You obviously were trying to be funny.

Hamilton was a piece of shite his whole life. That said even Hamilton would have been 100% opposed to taxing income.

He was in favor of big government, but only because a big government required a central bank and he was a banker!

When flat taxers start talking about taxing gross income, or even net income in some instances, a rate of 23% is astronomical. Because no one ever wants to define how we get to taxable income, as opposed to income.

Also, tax payers don't understand the difference between tax bracket, and tax rate. They may be in the 28% bracket and think a 17% flat tax is a great deal, when their effective tax rate is probably around 13%.

Laffer ran the numbers and said 13% on business and consumers, no tax deductions.

Russia’s flat tax is 15%.

When it was first implemented in 2001, it was 13%.

quote:

In 2001, Russia switched from a system of 12, 20 and 30 percent tax rates to a 13 percent flat income tax. Adjusted for inflation, revenue from Russia's personal income tax increased by 26 percent [PDF] in the year after a flat tax was implemented, and by nearly one-fifth as a percentage of GDP.

To not lose money based on this, you're either going to raise the hell out of the taxes on the bottom 75% or the bottom 95%.

45%, but at incomes between 50K-250K. No tax at incomes less than 25K.
