You may have missed this, but I just posted a Pew study that was done in 2019 in which respondents ranked how much identification with race informs their total self-image and identity.
15% of whites answered that it mattered "a lot."
Almost 75% of blacks answered that it mattered "a lot."
This not only explains the tribal nature of the black community's response to events like this, but also your post as a white person.
You don't think race matters, but they sure do. Almost exactly five times more than you do.

If we’re constantly focused on whichever group social media tells us is trying to destroy America this week, we have less mental bandwidth to think about and demand accountability for inflation, government spending, or endless military involvement overseas.
