I dont see the need for them either - but I don't see the need for Ferraris either.

there are two major problems with your 'common sense' proposal.

1 - You can ban them, but then the only people who will be effected are the honest citizens who obey the law. There is 0.00% chance that you would be taking them out of the hands of anyone who would actually use it for mass murder.

2 - if you were able to actually get rid of all of them (impossible) then the next most versatile weapon would be the choice of those who commit these types of crimes. = then the howl would be to ban THAT one. And so on down the line.

I own at least 15 guns, none of them in an 'assault rifle' category, and I don't even want one. I;d go broke buying the ammo.

The underlying problem is the dysfunctional culture that produces these kinds of derange individuals. Without addressing the real problem, all else is just getting batted around by the political forces whose agenda is not centered on solving the problem but on using the problem to advance their warped ideology.
