It seems some Trumpkins here feel we should defend Taiwan.

The democrats that ran the White House and Congress in the sixties felt we should protect the South Vietnamese from communist too. The Trumps were democrats then. Donald, like a lot of rich kids, got convenient deferments from the draft and never joined up.

I wonder if he would seek deferments today if we decided to go to Taiwan's defense?

I wonder if he would lay out of that war too and then criticize veterans of this hypothetical war like he criticized McCain for his service???

Is "low energy" worse than "low character"? It was small of Trump to criticize McCain's service and anyone that says otherwise is equally lacking in character.

There's a big difference between saying that Taiwan should be its own country versus investing billions of dollars and American lives in that same statement.

People can say whatever they want about Trump, but the one, indisputable fact about him is that he never created a new war. I will always love him for that. frick the military-industrial complex that we have in this country.

He should have run on staying out of wars. I absolutely supported his plans to leave Afghanistan and Iraq AND his idea to greatly diminish our role in NATO.

However so many of his supporters here seem to want a war with China it is right to point out the man’s attitude towards his own personal involvement in an Asian war.

It is also right to point out his character flaws revealed in his attacks on McCains war record. Perhaps he would have carried Arizona easily with the help of what was left of the McCain and Flake political machine. Some of his supporters here seem to prefer his never ending tirades of personal insults to his political success.

Not a single poster in this thread is as devoted to small government and individual liberty as am I. Their playground debate skills amount to silly insults that ignore facts and reality.

Trump doesn’t want a war with China—he dropped that trade war crap after he had a face saving “phase 1” deal. Just like the USMCA desk it really amounted to little changes to what we had before the trade war.

I don’t think Trump or Biden would go to war over Taiwan and that is why it is just crazy to hear people here say we should.

The difference in how they would handle a take over of Taiwan by China is the question you should be asking.

Biden would do absolutely nothing but stand by and let China do what they want.

Trump would not start a war with China but would sanction the hell out them until the retreated.

If we learned anything from the Trump administration is there are ways of handling foreign countries with out starting a war. Trump is the first president in 50 yrs to not start a new war.

You lost me at individual liberty but you seem like a nice guy. Your lack of self awareness in regards to China and their attempts at “colonialism” of Hong Kong, Taiwan and certainly the US makes most of your assertions invalid. By all means;however, carry on.

The better question is would he let his kids slave away making the cheap crap his company has manufactured over there by child laborers.

Red China has no more legitimate claim to Taiwan than Russia does to states in the old Soviet bloc.

Meanwhile, Taiwan is a free-trade democracy. I'm stunned that you as a """free-trader""" would back enabling its rape by an autocratic fascist neighbor. It's almost as if you seem to have a personal interest in profiteering off of Chinese slavery, and are allowing such interest to cloud rational thought.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

There were many fools in the 1930's who held your belief that we should hold fascists harmless in terms of militaristic threat. Unfortunately due in no small part to ignorance, history has a way of repeating itself.
