Go back and see what NR wrote about her when she died.

She was not nice.

Granted, her personality was very much molded by her traumatic childhood. But she was a bitch.

She did call it on the mind set of Totalitarianism, and what it had to do to maintain power: Coercion and the necessity of crushing individualism.

She's been proven right on that.

I think it's in Anthem where she lays out one of the most concise and well written treatises on the concept of self determination, will of individualism and the basic proof of "self ownership", after all how can you truly be free if you don't "own yourself"? The premise of the marxist, socialist, collectivist statists are all reliant of some form of "greater good" and need of self sacrifice for humanity as a disguise for the removal of individuality and freedom of self determination for the "good of society".

She lays it all out very well and it's no wonder the group think mentality of the weak minded on both the left and right, fear her.

You may not be aware of it, but it happens all the time.

quote:

She had it that "one’s sole obligation toward others, in this respect, is to maintain a social system that leaves men free to achieve, to gain and to keep their values.”

She believed "by the metaphysical nature of man and of existence, man has to maintain his life by his won effort," and in instances where altruism interfered, it was immoral. In simple terms, someone who expects a helping hand must look first to the end of his own arm.

In terms of todays statist mentality , how is it moral to take the accomplishments of those who achieve and give them to those who don't achieve?

I've done it here several times. My Ayn Rand Lexicon is right here in my office.

Ayn Rand was a materialist, while the conservative mindset often focuses on spiritual and moral foundations. She is actually very Marxist in her thinking in this regard.

conservatism is nothing if not materialist

She's also an absolutely horrible writer. It makes me question the intelligence of people/politicians when they claim her books to be their favorites

Thank you! I had to read Atlas Shrugged in college and her writing was absolutely atrocious. My prof was practically fawning over her the whole time too, just an awful class. Then 4 years later or so I see all these conservatives holding up her books as some wonderful reading. Ugh.

The unfortunate thing is that it is only a recent phenomena of conservatives praising this pseudo-philosopher.

That's because modern conservatism stands for shaming the poor and casting those who make less money as unproductive and useless members of society.
- perfectly in line with Rayndian thinking.

1. If you are poor in America you should be ashamed.

2. The poor are unproductive and useless members of society. The truth hurts.

Eliminate ours, sustain theirs, maximum economic effect. It's brilliant.

Of course it is, I thought of it. But some will have some pussy-arse bleeding heart moral dilemma about it, watch.

That would be inhumane. We have lots of food for the poor that is very cheap. Simply take away welfare and the poor will take that job at minimum wage and learn that rice, beans, potatoes and meat in the 'reduced for quick sale' bin beats all hell out of starvation.

Rand appeals to people who think they are better than the rest of the population.
