Mt Airy is a neat town

quote:Yes, it was. It aired in the late 1960s, during the height of the women's rights movement. It is the very definition of what was going on at the time.
That episode wasn't a reflection of what was going on in society at the time.

Yeah, but the home life depiction was accurate. I grew up in that 50s period and people did sit out on their porches and talked to next door neighbors who were on their porches or working in their front yard.
The neighbors indoors could hear us because everyone kept their windows open in summer without A.C.
And people did not lock their doors at night. In fact, the family car (no family I knew had 2 cars) had the keys in the ignition 24/7. You never had to look for your keys. They were in the ignition. I never heard of a car getting stolen.
I’m 41 years old, grew up in Glens Falls, NY and this quote fits my childhood, as well.
Moved to Nashville my sophomore year of high school after one of my parents got transferred there for work. Only then, at 16years old, did I first meet, let alone go to school, with any minority.

I'm actually a lot like Ernest T. Bass. I can play a musical instrument and I can write poetry:

The world before the internet was wonderful. The internet can be a great tool, but it's turned America into stupid self absorbed people.
Oh, and I was a fan of Andy's lady friends.

I think there were 3 folks "of color" in town.
I saw a black woman in a crowd scene once.
Flip Conroy was a black former NFL player who moved to town and took a coaching job at Opie's school.
There was an Indian guy on an episode where Opie wrote a paper on the Battle of Mayberry.
I watch too much TV.

Wrong. He was a town hero who made it to the NFL then came back to visit his home town, and while there, volunteered to coach the kids after school for a week or so.
He wasn't visiting. He came back to town after retiring from the Giants to "work in his father's business". I saw this one pretty recently.

One of last night's episodes included Barney taking Judo lessons from a Japanese fellow who had a Kodokan in Mayberry.

I got rid of cable like a year ago. I got some radio shack antenna that picks up 20 channels. Six channels are mexican and although I married one, I don't really watch those much. The other handful are PBS and MSM. The only channel I got left is Grit TV. Old westerns. They talk about virtue, the bible, stamping out evil assholes and they drink alot of whiskey. They smack the women around a bit too much, but most of the time they mouthed off and probably should have just made the coffee. Anyway, I get the Mayberry feel. Cept for Barney. He was special.

I hate to contradict you, but the sign on the door said "Mt. Pilot Judo School". Mr. Izamoto doesn't live in Mayberry. I did enjoy seeing him whip Fred's arse, though.
