well, I have answered it probably 20 times in the last two years. Apparently you are simply too stupid to remember that.

He is wrong, very wrong, on immigration. The recent tax. ut legislationwas extraordinarily ill -advised. The emphasis should have been on cutting spending and balancing the budget. I am not going to waste time answering the same question for the 21st time.

I'm so glad someone finally posted a thread like this. It's what this board has been missing.

Hey femme, here’s my story.

I had never voted for a thing in my life. I think I was only registered to vote because I answered questions about it when renewing my license. Trump was the first time I ever walked into a voting booth and pressed a button. I knew LA was going red anyway, but that was my little frick you to the whiny sjw movement.

I’m not a pure conservative either. I’m for gay marriage, abortion, and legalized weed, just to name a few. I might actually be one of these unicorn independents that the left posters here pretend to be. But after the theatrics the last few weeks, I don’t see how I’ll ever pull the lever for a dem candidate in anything. The pendulum will have to swing so far back that it practically breaks off for me to consider it.

To people like the OP, I just have to ask—what took so long? Even as someone who didn’t follow politics closely at all, I could see what was happening back in 2016. Everyone needs their own epiphany moment I suppose.

Trump is our saviour and liberals are filth.

Thanks for the heads-up. I had not heard this before now on this board.

The main difference between Trump and Reagan is how they treated the press. Though both were intensely hated by the press Reagan treated them with civility.

Different times and technology, but the same problem. Both faced ideological biased MSM opposition.

Reagan had no choice but to work through the MSM because they controlled ALL means of mass communication. He used every opportunity to filter his message through them with his only means of resistance, his like-ability. Prime example, the DNC/MSM Political Complex was trying to present Reagan as senile as well as stupid but some things like presidential debates must be aired and cannot be edited.

October 21, 1984: In the second presidential debate with candidate Walter Mondale, Reagan was grilled over his age by Henry "Hank" Trewhitt of the Baltimore Sun. "You already are the oldest President in history, and some of your staff say you were tired after your most recent encounter with Mr. Mondale. I recall, yes, that President Kennedy, who had to go for days on end with very little sleep during the Cuba missile crisis. Is there any doubt in your mind that you would be able to function in such circumstances?" Reagan replied, "Not at all, Mr. Trewhitt and I want you to know that also I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit for political purposes my opponent's youth and inexperience." Trewhitt responded, "Mr. President, I'd like to head for the fence and try to catch that one before it goes over."

But, new technology allows Trump to go around the MSM. Reagan would have hit them over the fence regularly with tweeter!

Maybe a more liberal board where trump is hitler and conservatives are nazis is more your speed.

Oh I know. If you don’t like bias in your message boards, go make your own.

I’m the same way. The libertarian party is a democratic shill. Just vote Trump and you’ll be better off

Well, it's called "Political Talk" not "Group Think" despite my encouragement to Chicken to change the name to what it actually is.

good one. I’ll probably never come back from that.

and that’s exactly what you’ll get. It’s obviously majority right, but this board has differing opinions. Bring your differing opinions to an overwhelmingly leftist board and see how long you last. No party is perfect, but the right is consistently free speech, while the left is consistently silencing dissent. But cool opinion.

That's why I've posted here for 14 years and stayed away from those you speak of. But this board is beginning to trend in that direction, unfortunately.

Is that why Trump extended and expanded government surveillance on us? Is that why we have the Patriot Act and free speech zones?

You loons give yourself away when you sky scream about your party being better than the other. I had this same conversation the previous eight years with Obama crazies.

You want to keep playing a game the establishment has set up for them to win, go right ahead. Count me out. The establishment has enough lemmings doing their bidding without adding me to the mix.

Thanks anyway.

but the stakes during the Reagan years were much higher.

With the benefit of hindsight I think the threat from within is much greater than anything the USSR ever posed. Winning the Cold War was easy compared to the problems with engaging the Democrat Party. Most Americans at least sensed the danger of Communism, this cultural Marxism is much more insidious.

I had a friend that died a few years back that was a marine during the time Regan took office. He said that he was on a ship with 1200 other marines in the Gulf of Omar during Regan’s time as President - Elect.
He told me there was four other ships with his full of marines in his expeditionary force. They also were part of a carrier battle group and their ship had a cruiser flanking their ship for protection.
They were preparing to go get the hostages or go get their remains. Their officers were priming them for battle. He used to tell me about how the F-4’s and F-14’s would shake the ships as they passed in the night and how pumped up he was as a 20 year old to go get the hostages.
The hostages were freed during Regan’s inauguration and they never went in. He told me how disappointed they were to sit there in the heat on that ship another 2 months before they got to come home.
Reagan was not going to let the US be humiliated like Carter.
