I think there needs to be some clarification on this board about NATO for some

There seems to be a lack of fundamental understanding of what NATO is. we aren’t forced to be in NATO. No one in NATO is using us because we invented it! Now should we disband NATO is a very good question that I hope Trump looks at, but understand why it exists. NATO IS the American empire. How come we have troops stationed all over the globe? The same reason Rome and Great Britain did. To protect the empire. We aren’t forced to be in nato. We are nato! There’s a lot of politicians on both sides of the aisle that don’t want equal funding by other nato countries because that is incentivizing places in Europe to potentially challenge us. The politicians don’t want that. They want a toothless Europe that is forced to rely on us. Same with Canada. Because then the debt isn’t real as long as we are borrowing from those countries. Because when push comes to shove those countries are forced to look to us for protection and mercy. That’s what NATO is. now should America be an empire? That’s a great question that I don’t think the founding fathers saw happening.

ETA: Try getting them to understand the underlying goal of the Marshall Plan next.

NATO has given the US so much influence that it has made us the world leaders we are today.
That costs.
It's the same thing when we send cash to other countries. What happens when your currency is now the primary means of exchnage worldwide?

NATO was formed in 1949 to counter the Soviet Union's expansion in Europe after World War II

You should understand there are very few degrees of separation between the anti-western propaganda promoted by the Kremlin and the stuff that is posted here by American right wingers. The Kremlin takeover of this information space is almost complete.

Any by the way, Russia is currently invading eastern Europe and China has its eyes set on Taiwan while arming itself at around $700 billion a year (unreported, of course). We're going to need military allies sooner rather than later.

Let’s reframe it.
There is no such thing as Government funding. The US empire’s government has no money.
Its citizens do.
Tax payers fund the American empire and European socialism with blood and treasure.
The tax payer has had enough.
At the very least European socialism won’t be an American tax payer bill.
Europe is a long way from challenging anything.
They can’t handle free speech, immigration, freedom of religion, sex crimes…Europe is crumbling from the inside and in no position to compete.
Let’s reframe it.
