I rarely watch commercials anymore so when I do it is interesting

I had no idea the US population was now evenly split between every demographic group.
All the former minorities I see appear to be middle class and investing in their retirement so what economic disparity do people keep talking about?

I had no idea how many same sex couples we had. I mean, they're in 20% of commercials, so does that mean they're up to 20% of the population?

According commercials, 80% of the population is black, 75% of couples are mixed race, and 58% of the population is gay

Marketing to less than 15% of the population doesn't seem to be a winning strategy, but maybe you can explain it to us.

Yeah it also seems like a mix sjw gay was recently promoted to head of the commercial advertising by every pharma company.

I watched the first half of the ND-UGA game and it is laughable how hard the agencies are trying. Strange sight to see since I really haven't watched much TV in about 3 years. It's like they are talking to an alternative audience. I don't think many people pay much attention to ads any more so the little agency cliches are trying to please themselves. The people with the vast buying power, middle class wage earners don't exist, except we do.

And yet you said it yourself, it's all over TV. Seems to be the winning strategy these companies have gone with. Companies don't often copy losing strategies.

Ive worked in marketing for fortune 500 companies for years. You get a focus group and show them some story board concepts. We have become so politically correct the focus group would not dare say anything about one containing a minority of any kind. You do the mock ups and show the bosses, the bosses would not dare say anything, so voila you end up with a total misrepresentation of your target audiences in the ads.
I always chuckle at KFC, apparently no black people in America eat fried chicken.

This has been the most annoying thing to me - Showing minorities in positive light is probably good, even thought it is nauseatingly overdone.
BUT - white dads being totally incompetent jerks is disgustingly bad. There is NEVER EVER a black dad who is completely befuddled about uncoiling a garden hose.

If you stop watching commercials for a week and then watch any channel the massive amount of drug company marketing is as bizarre as it is alarming
