I don't speak scank, so not sure what you're talking about. Sounds like something yours is familiar with?

If you live with your parent for a year or two when you start working it’s possible. I did it and I saved enough for a huge down payment on a house and build up an emergency/savings fund.

That's true. But it is also a little like your parents giving you the money. My parents have not supported me in any real sense since I was 17. Kinda proud of that.

The reason Im skeptical of your BS is because I have been there, and skrimped and saved and budgeted every penny and drove paid off shite old car that i had to repair myself and rented in low cost crime infested neighborhood, only bought groceries on sale about to expire, eat every single leftover, Etc etc etc, and I was able to save $30,000 but it actually took me five years to do it.

I was making about 38k and wife full time student with no income. Cant imagine trying to do that with a child.

I have saved plenty and I use a shitty Wal-Mart Android phone. Assuming you're telling the truth, I refuse to believe you were anything but miserable.

There's being financially responsible, and then there's being miserly. If you made 45k, saving 30k over two years with a non-working wife and kid tells me you probably cut corners in unreasonable places.

And I’m proud that I have loving parents that helped set me up. I don’t understand the negative perception associated with living with your family when you’re getting started out in life. Paying rent is terrible if you ever want to be wealthy.

Sure. I think it's great. And kudos to your parents. All I am saying is that is more like getting a gift than saving money.

bullshite that you lived on less than 30k a year with a wife and child. Maybe 3 decades ago. Not recently.

I lived on a lot less than that thirty years ago. Have you ever eaten a rice sandwich?

I had a flip phone and the same battery for 9 years. Most folks I know switched phones about 5 times during that span. It served the purpose I needed it for.

Other folks I know are always running to ATM's and wasting money that way as well. Most folks have no idea how much money they waste every month. It all adds up over time.

Easiest way to see what you're wasting is to make up a spreadsheet for all your expenses and track them by month and year.

The stigma of living with parents is really around the amount of time. If you move back home for six months after college and work a "menial" job to sock away money while you apply and interview for careers, that's great.

But after a year, two years, and you are still at home with mommy and daddy, you are a loser.

It absolutely is a gift. I don’t disagree with that.

To the point, if you lived with your parents rent free, its not appropriate to brag about how much money you saved on a modest income.

No. Just lived within my means. Something most people refuse to do and then whine about their circumstances.

Does "living within your means" fall under the I still drive the car my parents bought for me and I also lived at home my entire college career and first year out of college?

I saved 100% of my income when I mowed lawns in the summer of 1991. I only made $285 a year! Why are all these slack asses making 30k so fricking poor?

So you were making $45k, which after federal and state taxes, SS, etc results in around $37k take home.

What help did you get it what worms did you eat to save 41% of your take home while setting up a new family and with a kid?
