In an emergency fund over 2 years when I was making only $45k out of college, married and had 1 child. And that was with my wife staying home.

So what’s you “paycheck to paycheck” people’s excuses?

But how much free food did you get from the food bank that year?

Got to have that new car, a mortgage you can barely afford, a big screen tv with an entertainment system, too many toys for your kids and eating out 5 or 6 days per week.

Some people love living neck deep in debt. I'll never understand it.

My folks instilled in me early on to spend my money wisely and never buy on credit unless I had no other choice.

Some of my siblings did not get the message.

That’s how you saved so much money for two years

Child care is expensive a shite

That would be $90k pre tax and benefits.

Take out taxes health care and you are looking at $60k max in the bank.

That’s 30k a year and you managed to save 15k/year so you lived off 15k per year? That’s $1,250 month for house car gas clothes food etc

If true that’s crazy

No. Just lived within my means. Something most people refuse to do and then whine about their circumstances.

Special needs child. I just paid my copay on a new $20,000 wheelchair and reconfigured a bathroom so he could be rolled in and out of a shower. We also had to pay $1,800 on an adaptive toileting system and are about to drop $1,200 on a transport wheelchair that can be used for when the lift isn't available. I typically pay about $25,000 to $35,000 each year on uncovered medical related expenses for that one child alone. And I have three other children, one in college.

I haven't been able to accumulate much in short term savings. Retirement account is fat, but short term savings is non-existent. Is that an "excuse?" Or perhaps is the reality that different people live under different circumstances.

As for your OP, good for you.

Based on your information, I'm betting you paid little to nothing in income taxes.

So you saved $30k. That would imply you lived on $30j annually?

If you live with your parent for a year or two when you start working it’s possible. I did it and I saved enough for a huge down payment on a house and build up an emergency/savings fund.
