What executive order did Trump initiate to shut down anything? What was the enforcement clause of this ordinance?
Trump signed the enormous stimulus and gave daily briefings essentially telling states to issue lock down orders. In fact, just yesterday he said the Georgia Governor was opening businesses too quickly.

Trump is a political genius. He doesn’t let himself get boxed in on the wrong issue. For example, he will say just enough to act like he cares about gun control to pacify suburban woman while still appointing pro 2nd amendment judges. Similarly, he was “careful” enough with this virus outbreak that suburban moms by and large aren’t going to say he didn’t do enough. He walks a thin line beautifully most of the time, which is required for a GOP President/nominee.

Maybe you haven’t noticed, but they are doing this anyway. And that’s my point.

But by signing an allowing a Bill to go out that pays people more to stay home than work, the President’s enemies have essentially caused him to cut his own throat.
Yeah, that is going to be a big issue going forward. Not sure how to fix it either.

That's a horrible answer. It's like saying 'I gave my daughter $100 and told her not to buy anything stupid.'
What were the penalties for non compliance of what dictates? There were none. All enforcement of any shut down is at the state and local level. Not from Trump.

I know Trump was under tremendous pressure, but he shouldn’t have shut us down.

I think Trump has gotten the better of the Left at almost every turn in the past. Sadly, I think they used his genuine concern for the well being of Americans to hamstring himself this time. I hope I’m wrong.

This isn't a technical or legal matter. Trump leads the country. The country shut its arse down and Trump wasn't screaming not to.
So, if Trump said 'A lockdown is bad' then all the lockdowns would go away? Really?

Maybe he should have let her win, then we wouldn't be in this mess.

So the president doesn’t set National policy?

No, he doesn't. We live under federalism and the constitution. It give the President a lot of power re: international policy. And Trump did intervene strongly re: immigration and very wisely. The lockdown was never an executive order. It was never a bill passed through congress and signed by Trump. It has zero enforcement defined from the federal level. It is all on the states. What do you not understand?

No, but you also can't turn around and say that you wanted to save the economy but you were helpless when you publicly support the lockdown measures
That is an argument of rhetoric not law. In terms of rhetoric if you had to divide the nation's govt leaders into two camps 'lock it down' and 'let's open' then Trump's rhetoric has clearly been on the 'let's open' side.

Totally agree. I fear he fell for the trap and it’ll cost him a second term. I think the Democrats, very early on, saw the opportunities associated with mail-in ballots and same day voter registration.
The response played into that strategy.

Never negotiate with terrorists.

Trump never ordered a shut down.

I understand that if from day one, Trump had advocated for businesses to stay open, the conservative Governors would have had some cover to remain open.

He didn't shut us down, the governors did.

He strongly encouraged states to initially close for 14 days, and we know how that’s played out.
