I know Trump was under tremendous pressure, but he shouldn’t have shut us down.

He was going to be destroyed by the media either way, so he should have chosen the path of Sweden and quarantined the sick, sheltered the elderly and let everyone else work.
We all know that the left will blame him for the long term problems from the collapsed economy anyway, so he should have chosen the lesser or two evils.

Yeah, his supporters will just blurt out the 13577585-D chess idiom though.

It depends on what particular part about this virus you are discussing as to whether it’s a hoax or not.

I don't think one man can do all that by himself even if he wanted to

No shutdown would have been correct, but even had Trump had the guts to do no shutdown, most governors were going to cave and we'd be in mostly the same situation we are now.

This thing was the political equivalent of the Kobayashi Maru.

Trump did the best he could with the information he had at hand. He did a great job. This is just Monday morning quarterbacking that is poorly thought out.

But a lot of governors wouldn't have, and as their states didn't see everybody die and their economies not burned down the other governors would have had two choices - stay hiding and get left behind or open things up.

Trump fricked this up when he turned our economy over to Anthony Fauci, and then compounded the frickup with PPP (also knows as TARP II) and the walking back of his suspension of all legal immigration.

Sorry but I’m not buying this. The Governors made moves based largely on information coming from the Feds.

So you don’t think Trump is second guessing himself by now?

With what happened in NYC, not sure how viable that strategy would have been. The shutdown was likely inevitable, especially since it wasn't something he could really control.

What Trump needs to absolutely crush is the exit out of the shutdown. As well as limiting it going into the fall when flu season heats up again.

What executive order did Trump initiate to shut down anything? What was the enforcement clause of this ordinance?

They would have hung every single death on him, and the governors/mayors (and other countries) would have tanked the economy anyway.

I can't fault him for trying to manage the glide path.

He can at least point to the "Doomsday" models and claim credit for saving potentially millions of American lives.

He chose the lesser of two evils, IMHO.

This isn't a technical or legal matter. Trump leads the country. The country shut its arse down and Trump wasn't screaming not to. He's going to get the blame that's coming, and it's going to be an avalanche. Even the people shaming others for wanting to go back to work will forget all of that, as the reality of putting the economy in timeout for a ridiculous amount of time sets in.

But by signing an allowing a Bill to go out that pays people more to stay home than work, the President’s enemies have essentially caused him to cut his own throat.

The virus isn’t a hoax but the reaction to it is. Come on look at the numbers for proof.
