I believe we are supporting the Syrian Democratic Force (SDF), basically a group of Muslims who don't want to kill Americans and Jews as much as they want to kill the other type of Muslim.
Google search told me they are Kurds, so it's the same situation as Northern Iraq.

Assad was duly elected President of Syria and he is loved by his own people and did not "gas them" as alleged.
Start there.

Thank you. Makes sense as Turkey despises the Kurds - as did Saddam's Iraq

In April 2017, there was a sarin chemical attack on Khan Sheikhoun that killed more than 80 people.[310][311][237] The attack prompted U.S. president Donald Trump to order the U.S. military to launch 59 missiles at the Syrian Shayrat airbase.[312][313] Several months later, a joint report from the UN and international chemical weapons inspectors concluded that the attack was the work of the Assad regime.[167][314]
In April 2018, a chemical attack occurred in Douma, prompting the U.S. and its allies to accuse Assad of violating international laws and initiated joint missile strikes at chemical weapons facilities in Damascus and Homs. Both Syria and Russia denied the involvement of the Syrian government at this time.[315][316] The third report published on 27 January 2023 by the OPCW-IIT concluded that the Assad regime was responsible for the 2018 Douma chemical attack which killed at least 43 civilians.[
