If someone is flagged,

1- they are given a trackable ankle bracket,
2- they are given a lockable gun safe by the state that sends an alert when it is opened.

3- they get to keep all of their weapons and ammunition

4- (user suggested) there are massive penalties against anyone who initiates a false or spurious flag report

This remains in place only as long as the red flag period is active.

I am assuming there is an expiry to red flag incidents.

People are going to come into the thread with the quickness to tell you how dumb you are. This board doesn't believe there is a problem.

How about if someone is red flagged they go to a holding center?

If it is found the system was abused - who ever the reporter was serves 6 months minimum in jail, no house arrest, no probation, lie about a person's mental health and go the freaking jail.

No. We just don't think it is a problem that gets solved by stigmatizing mental health and curtailing god given rights.

This is a great addition.

I should also clarify that my solution does NOT mean tour guns are locked up so you can’t use them. You still have 100% of tour rights to use them. It’s just that if you do take them out, you are going to be closely monitored.

You can still go to the range, still go hunting, etc.

NOT AN INCH. Gun owners have slowly ceded gun rights under the guise of safety for 100 years. NO MORE. it’s never a negotiation. It’s responsible gun owners giving up theirs rights bc of other kooks. Kooks the govt is usually already monitoring, yet unable to stop

Govt can’t be trusted with this power. They’ve proven to be corruptible for political gain. NOT NO, HELL NO.

I have an idea. Why don't the courts send a notice to the person that is the subject of the red flag thing. Give the person 48 hours to respond by setting up an appointment or to defend themselves in court. The MAJORITY of these red flag things will be overblown. This does give them a chance to act out but it also gives them the opportunity to defend themselves legally and prevents the cops from knocking on their door at 5:00 a.m. If there is a mental health court then let these cases be handled there.

The point is not to curtail ones life or liberty. Putting them in a holding center is exactly that.

An ankle bracelet? Did this sound like a compromise in your head?

Whether there is a problem or not has no bearing on why his idea is really dumb. The fact you couldn’t figure that out means you’re really dumb.

At least he has an idea, and isn't burying his head in the sand or preaching the need for civil war over fricking guns.

A solution, even if terrible, is better than nothing.

Nice logic. It was almost as good as your strawmen.

typical low education low information moron. His “idea” is clearly a violation of the 4th Amendment. I know you useful idiots aren’t real well versed in constitutional protections and/or due process, but you prove my point. The fact you couldn’t see that means you’re dumb.

Now, if you want to discuss heads being in the sand....let’s address the problem. Are you for infringing upon constitutional rights based upon statistical anomalies? Do you know the standard required for infringing on constitutional rights? Let’s have an actual discussion. I have no desire to have my head in the sand. Let’s see how knowledgeable you are.

this board has a rational appreciation for the scope of the problem and rightly doesn't believe it's worth violating people's constitutional rights to implement policies that won't even be effective

Let’s see, raid my home at dawn, detain me, ransack my house and take my property away OR

...show up at dawn, deliver me a gun safe, monitor that it is used and have me submit to being tracked for a few days/weeks.

That’s compromisey.
