They are homogeneous as frick. Only country I've ever felt discriminated in and God bless them for it. Its THEIR country and how it should be.

Go to Nagano and nearby - especially where the snow monkeys are (I forget that towns name). Closest comparison is the UP.

Ramen is literally the closest thing to gumbo on the planet. Instead of making shrimp stock from heads / tails of shrimp they make pork stock from head / tail / hooves of pigs.
Instead of Okra and rice, cayenne and bread and sassafras they use scallions, cornstarch, eggs, noodles and peppers
