There is no contradiction. DeSantis’ campaign was a disaster.
Certainly it is pure conjecture on my part that there were elements in the DeSantis campaign that sandbagged his candidacy from within. Yet if you don’t think the reigning GOP establishment is not sinister and would not purposefully undermine the campaign of widely popular Governor in a MAGA leaning state, we will just have to have a difference of opinion on that matter.

Trump's brand of politics has worked as he has leveraged his hard core plurality to the nomination and likely the White House. But Trump's biggest flaw is his demanding political loyalty or else and trashing everyone else has alienated those who might be otherwise be sympathetic and support his message.

I don’t know if I agree with all of your details.
But, he was definitely recruited by uniparty types.
He may have had early hope of making inroads into Trump’s base…but that is long gone.
He clearly doesn’t have a path and that’s been the case for at least 3 months but tons saw it way before then.
He continues because his campaign has a motive to prevent the remaining Republicans from returning to Trump. This is a large organized effort. It is pure manipulation.
I haven’t read this thread yet, but You will have many Desantis supporters argue the RINO part and not the “take down the nominee” part.
