Quick question. Say you're the CEO of a billion dollar company. Do you really want the grunts at the low end of the salary list having equal say in how your company is run? I didn't think so. However, you would be justified with your reasoning of the low-enders not being savvy enough about your business in order for them to have a sayso in how it's run.
Same should apply to elections.

The problem is someone like rex, who votes himself tax subsidies for health insurance, knowing damn well it has to be taken first.
Two points:
1) Who said I receive tax subsidies? I never have.
2) Why shouldn't I vote in my own economic interest when you do the same?

I've gotta admit, Rex has a point here.
That being said, frick Rex, right in the pussy.

I don't know why there is a push to get people too lazy to stay informed to cast votes. I don't know why advocating that they do vote is somehow considered noble.

Have you read De Tocqueville?

Not all should be entitled to vote. If you are not a contributor to society, other than making more government dependents, you should not have the right to vote.
Election of competent people to manage our military and fiscal resources is needed. Unfortunately we elect incompetent people based upon the "what's in it for me" culture of simple minded voters.
America is still a great country, but we are going to be no better than France, Spain, etc in 20 years with our free ride socialist path set by the leeches of government.

Why would we be trying to get less people to vote when we can't even hit 50% participation rates in presidential elections.
If you feel this strongly about homeowners voting, nothing is stopping you from creating a grass roots movement. Get out there and actually start doing something instead of sitting behind a keyboard, bitching about how a group of people shouldn't be voting.

Crazy threads like these only serve to turn sane people off and push them into voting for Democrats as the lesser of two evils.
I'm not sure you've thought this all the way through. NYC bankers and California tech liberals would dominate. The South has less disposable income and a lower income in general. With taxes being progressive, this means that votes would skew towards the higher cost-of-living states up north and out West.
.. for property taxes? There's no federal election for property taxes. What about people in urban areas? Only landlords can vote?
Jesus Christ, people.

you would get and additional vote for every $20k in federal taxes you pay.

Asgard, I don't think people are understanding my OP. I do not agree with any of these property restrictions. My point is that mass suffrage, when combined with a government whose primary function is transferring wealth from Peter to Paul, creates a moral hazard. My indictment is directed at the current dominant function of government. I think it uses mass suffrage to create the fiscal clusterfrick we are currently in.
If government was devoted to protecting natural rights, and only that, then there would be nothing problematic with mass suffrage.

So, get your desirables out to vote! Yet again, nobody is stopping you from rallying your troops. Voter participation is atrocious across the board.

If only people voted the way you wanted them to vote - you would be fine with them voting! Oh that's so nice of you!
BTW - thanks for admitting what we already know to be the truth - the right wing opposes universal suffrage.

I'm technically right, yet I don't oppose universal suffrage. You are stereotyping based on a small sample size.

For the most part I actually agree, because most women aren't interested in really educating themselves on the issues. They "feel" and they tend to use to decide how to vote. Realistically though this will never happen. I'd really like to see voter IDs and some sort of basic competency test required in order to vote.
You're blind if you don't think men vote based on emotions, too. Anger is a big emotion that's evident on the poliboard every day.
