Hey, I love the results Trump is getting, but you have your head in the sand if you can’t see that he’s taken political decorum and general decency to new lows.

He might not be as eloquent in his insults but I think accusing a candidate of causing cancer is lower than making fun of a facelift

Rep. Preston Brooks makes a point to Senator Charles Sumner on the floor of the Senate, 1856.

It may not have met your definition of respectful, but it was civil. This disrespect is both offensive and counterproductive, as you will find out in November and then again in November 2020. Please keep the good work up.

So we'll keep winning? Sounds good

"They're gonna put you back in CHAINS!"

Of course, let's not forget McCain's illegitimate black lovechild the week of the SC primary in 2000...

This is very Art-of-War-ish. When the left has the upper hand it’s full speed ahead and screw anybody that gets in the way. When the tables are turned it’s time for everybody to play nice.

Wrong.

It's been going on since 1780. Look at some of the history of the old presidential elections. Even George Washington had a lot of detractors. Back then people would write editorials under pseudonyms so they could freely excoriate opponents. And we all know the story of Andrew Jackson in 1828:

quote:

This diffuse coalition included both friends and foes of the American System. To break it, Adams men tried to smoke out Jackson's position. Jackson refused to be pinned down, while his followers fended off questions about his qualifications and experience by touting his battlefield exploits, indomitable patriotism, and opposition to aristocracy and corruption. A good deal of mud was slung on both sides, much of it aimed at Jackson's marriage, his violent escapades, and the incidents of ferocious discipline and of disrespect for civilian authority that dotted his military career. Adams men painted him as a grasping and bloodthirsty character, a budding tyrant in the model of Caesar or Napoleon, whose election would spell the death of the republic.

Literally Caesar.

Only difference is back then they didn't have CNN or Twitter.

Of course it wasn't. But Trump, with the help of his simpletons, has bought it down to the gutter.

You're right. It was terrible of President Trump to say that "they're gonna put you back in chains."
Or, how he forced the DNC to literally build a wall around their political convention. (I'm STILL laughing at the comic irony of that.)
Let's not forget when he said that “Scott Walker has given women the back of his hand. I know that is stark. That is direct. But that is reality. What Republican tea party extremists like Scott Walker are doing is they are grabbing us by the hair and pulling us back. It is not going to happen on our watch.”
Don't forget when he said, “Civilization as we know it would be in jeopardy if Republicans win the Senate.”

All of this obviously made you so mad, you're seeing Fuschia.

Dems are used to GOP rolling over and taking it up the arse. So now that someone is putting it right back up their arse, they don’t like it.

How about LBJ vs Goldwater where Johnson ran the famous “daisy” ad and KKK endorsement of Goldwater ad. LBJ warned everyone that Goldwater was a racist who couldn’t help but get America incinerated.

What trump is doing is child’s play. We are just coming off a long line of “aww shucks” party leaders/candidates (H. W. Bush, Dole, W. Bush, Grandpa McCain, Romney).

I think it’s pretty easy to contend that there have been hostile elections since the start of it all, from both parties.

Dems of late got used to walking all over holier than thou Republicans.

They met their match in Teflon Don.

Maybe there are a few examples of elections that weren’t hostile, but if I learned anything from history courses it’s that almost every single election in our history has been hostile to some degree.

I’m reminded of Andrew Jackson campaigning literally the day after losing to John Q. Adams and people calling Martin van Buren, Martin van Ruin.

There are plenty of other examples.

It’s only a problem now because trump fights back. Discourse was fine to Dems while the bushes bent over
