Then you are a profoundly retarded dumbass who shouldn't be allowed to be alone... ever. For your own safety. You'd find a way to do something stupid.

Seatbelts and helmets are common sense defenses against reckless and careless drivers. Operating a motor vehicle on the roadway has always been seen as a privilege and not a right by SCOTUS.

Wearing a seatbelt has saved my life. I flipped my Jeep. When I was younger I never wore a seat belt until I got a ticket from a State Trooper. From then on. I wore a seatbelt.

Yes. Because I don’t want to see anyone unnecessarily hurt for not taking a half second to buckle up

You’re a fricking idiot if you don’t buckle up. Don’t try to argue with me, it’s a hill I will die on. I refuse to move my car if someone in my vehicle isn’t buckled up.

A whole lot of lives saved for the most minimal invasion of privacy. Worth it.

Your argument is apples to oranges. Long term care for accident victims fall to the States, not the Federal Government. Driving on public roads isnt a right. Its a privilege. When you are granted a license, you agree to mitigate bad outcomes. That includes obeying speed limits, driving only when sober, and obtaining insurance in case you cause harm to others.
If you want to go fast without a seat belt, do it on private property. That's perfectly legal.

Sounds like the argument for Red Flag gun laws.

I’ve got a 100 series LC doesn’t beep at all. That’s enough reason to keep it imo

Not even close to the same fricking thing and you know it.

Purposely being disingenuous

Ridiculous.

Is that how it should be?

Choices should have consequences.

Correct. Heart disease (often caused by obesity and smoking) kills more people in the US than auto accidents.

The data about seat belts saving lives is pretty conclusive; the data on whether red flag laws would is suspect at best. Also, driving is a privilege and the right to bear arms is a right. Big difference and not a good comparison.

Laws are reactionary, not proactive. He isn’t against people having the ability to wear helmets or seatbelts, he thinks the government shouldn’t threaten people into doing these things.

Laws are stupid. Wear a helmet when you ride your bike. I saw my obgyn last week and he said he got a mild brain injury over the summer from falling off his bike without a helmet on. A doctor even made that idiotic decision. After car accidents, most TBIs result from bicycle accidents. I make my kids wear helmets even when they ride scooters. It’s not worth the risk.

Digging deeper, I don’t think it is the government’s role to save people from their choices.

But, if we think that it is, the government could probably save even more lives by mandating a 35mph speed limit everywhere and outlawing motorcycles altogether. Or requiring helmets in cars. Or require cell phones to not work if they are moving faster than 20mph.

As long as you have signed up to be an organ donor, it doesn't bother me if you don't wear a seat belt or a helmet.

We need more organs to transplant.

100% of people who don’t wear a seatbelt or helmet end up dead?

Do we ever hear stats on how many people don’t wear seatbelts and survive crashes without serious injury? Or never have a wreck?

Outlaw alcohol, cigarettes, etc etc

The government isn’t here to protect us from ourselves or even each other.
