That was before criminal shite related to the laptop was filed. I imagine this is part of a ploy to establish the data was obtained illegally, which could make it inadmissible.
Weren't some of his federal charges dismissed b/c California was the proper venue? And this suit was filed in Californian federal court?

He’s facing charges of falsifying federal documents to illegally obtain a firearm. What would the contents of the laptop have to do with that? He’s an admitted drug user, even without that.
