nothing says freedom like slavery

Slavery existed all over the world. It still exists today in Africa.

The south obviously would have gotten rid of slavery, but they probably would have done so in a way that put distance between themselves and former slaves.

Now fast forward to modern times, look at the issues we have as a society. The faux victim hood and racial divides and compare us to "less diverse" civilizations and youll soon realize that
America is the king of letting social constructs ruin objective observation.

Maybe the U.S.A. and the C.S.A. would have stayed out of WWI.

Had the Kaiser won the world would be better off.

why do you think that’s obvious? has the agriculture industry not imported millions of illegal
immigrants? human labor requirements are lower but they’re still there

How does the south winning and prolonging slavery help those issues?

The confederacy wanted to conquer all of LATAM, much more ardent supporters of Manifest Destiny than the North was. The entire Western Hemisphere would have been American domain

Slavery would have gone away inevitably due to international trade pressure (primarily, UK and French)

China remains weak due to 9 power treaty

Woodrow Wilson and the Brit’s fricked the west.

Totally agree. We wouldn't be
a dominant world power if we were divided and probably would've continued having conflicts between the North and South.

Crime statistics would look a lot different.

So if the South eventually abolishes slavery, what does it do with millions of blacks?

And don't think abolitionists in the North would have been training and funding guerrilla warfare by slaves at some point.

South would fall way behind due to focus on agriculture.

The south was set back decades due to the barbaric and unconventional (at the time) military tactics used by the Union, not to mention the punitive measures enforced during Reconstruction.

If you were a slave I'd say lower than snake shite.
Rich planters would have been rich longer that's for sure.
The poor whites in the South no doubt would have fought in a war further down the road.

Hope that helps.

We wouldn't be any better off.

The fatal error of slavery wasn't that it existed. Or, even that we fought a war over it. The fatal error was bringing so many black people here in the first place.

Would secession have changed that? Nope. We'd still have the same situation and arguably worse because a purely southern nation would have FAR TO HIGH a percentage of black voters for anything vaguely resembling a functioning society.

Abe had a plan to send them back to the continent if Africa. Some went, but I don't think it was very many. Maybe something a long those lines

I often wonder how many of our shite politicians down here are the descendants of the invading carpetbaggers.
My family had hella property and fine fighting men taken in that forced war. Lot of wealth was stolen.
How many oil and gas deposits got stolen that are paying off today.?
Talk about reparations

The longer term consequences have been that there is effectively no check on the powers of the federal government

It is impossible to have a Federal Government with limited powers without that government adding powers over the years. Every organization seeks to become stronger. If the South had successfully seceded it’s impossible to say what would have happened, except that the Federal Government of the South would have worked incessantly to become more powerful.

You are confusing the south “winning” with being “allowed to secede”. I suppose the latter could be considered winning, but I think the point of the scenario is that it would have been without major conflict.

How would it help with those issues? Prolonging slavery is one way to put it, but a forced termination with no plan forward is how it was dealt with. The CSA would have been in better position to develop those terms, instead, former slaves lost all leverage and the south was devastated and still looked down upon to this day for it. Descendants of slaves clearly didn’t get any lasting opportunities out of this, as the places with highest slave populations are the poorest and blackest communities in the country.

Nothing says freedom like “if you leave, we will kill you and burn your cities.” We have the data, put all other world events and any ripple effects aside, the union benefitted much more “winning” the war than any other outcome from the conflict, which includes those of former slaves and their descendants. There is still an enormous wedge in this country that the conflict never solved, and it’s easy to see if you can move beyond the only reason for it was “slavery is bad”.
