pretty much every day.
This is an international Bible study organization that I participate in.
LINK - Bible Study Fellowship
It provides an excellent structure, tools, small groups that meet via Zoom 1 night per week to discuss the passage studied during the week. You spend 15~20 minutes a day on the course material. There's a new course every year that runs from September through April. This year the course is Genesis. Last year it was Acts + several new testament books, Next Year the course is Matthew.
You find out how much you don't know by studying with this program and you meet a lot of great people. There are 14 guys in my small group and there are 15 men's small groups in this 3 county area of north Georgia. It is non-denominational. In my small group there are guys from Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, 1 Roman Catholic, some independent churches, Even an MD from South Korea who attends a Korean Presbyterian church. The program is funded by donors, so it doesn't cost you any $s to participate.
Try it out and see if you like it, nothing to lose, everything to gain.

The books are put in chronology order when they were written? Or by the historical account it covers. From what I read job was written first.
It is written as if in chronological order by historical account. Yes, Job in mentioned as "not knowing exactly where to put it" based on different understandings. So far, I am just finishing the first 5 books, so it hasn't gotten too far into the chronological. At this point, I am most looking forward to reading the book of acts i think. time will tell if if it fruitful.

I don't take the Bible literally

I like the general message

quote:there are several routes you could go. most conservative seminaries have students study theology early on. grudem and erickson have been widely used.
would be grateful for any books or online resources that help with interpreting scripture and provide context to it

after that, it starts to get more complicated. exegesis and hermeneutics can be studied simultaneously but, it's really more helpful to study exegesis first. if you want to do it right, if you really want the fullest experience reading the bible, you can't beat reading it in it's original language which requires learning hebrew and greek. no easy feat. then you can study hermeneutics.
osborne's book is hard to beat. it makes use of ben meyer's critical realism which is very, very solid epistemological scholarship

What does this have to do with politics?

Religion and Politics are tied at the hip. Or 'heart'.
Constitution>>>>>>>>>>GOD-given, inalienable Rights.
Morality>>>>>>>the basis for both Individualist and Collectivist Political Ideology.

I love the OT. Jesus refers to the OT many times.

Just about every day. If I don't, it's because my mind isn't where it should be.
