I have one account at APCO credit union, one at a small, two branch local bank and then have Citi/fidelity accounts.

At the end of the day, I use my credit cards for everything and the one big sum comes out of a local bank each month.

We don't have any. Would if I could. We have a few that started in the state but even they have entered into the interstate banking.

You really can’t generalize about banks. Some local banks want deposits more than loans and buy as many low or no risk bonds as their regulations allow. Some are run by arrogant locals that would loan their high school buddy $50000 for a bass boat but will not loan a “not from here” $20000 for business inventory. Some load their boards up with big customers they want to wine and dine and share your loan applications with those same people. Some are good lenders that offer good checking services.

I bank with both large banks and a small one. I can often times get things done quicker online with a larger bank than I can with the local.

Banking is a commodity. If the bank you are using isn’t giving you the things you want then move on to another. If you are shopping for a large loan interview the bank before you start a loan process. Ask them things like how many such loans do they have? and what is the loan approval process? Some banks just aren’t interested in certain types of loans regardless of your credit or collateral.

you can buy 8 week t-bills yielding 4% on treasury direct.

CDs are almost always at a discount to T-bills.

Treasury Direct is easy to use and drafts and deposits back into checking account seamlessly.

I've loved my local credit union Bank for nearly 15 years but they recently started posting woke stuff on the windows and walls, also big flat screens with BLM on them. Pathetic.

And I don’t mean credit unions. You and I pay more taxes than they do. They’re “nonprofit”.

What would you want them to pay taxes on ? There are no shareholders receiving returns? It's basically a club of people pooling their money together to help each out, thats it.

Very true, both at the consumer and corporate level. I’ve turned down deals that I thought were money good, because I also have the responsibility to shape the portfolio and it can get overweighted in certain sectors and certain products.

I can't remember the last time I had to actually go inside of a bank because I do almost everything online. I do use a local credit union though as well.

Big banks aren’t supporting the local community activities

There are some minuses to "big" banks.. But the comment about local activities isn't true. At least for one of the bigger banks : involved with race sponsoring. Education (k -12) sponsoring, little leagues, community gardens ...local Concerts and arts, a wing at science center and more... And that's in my town

The bank I use is from my home town of ~2,000 people. I went to school with the manager and they make it to easy to stay with them even though I’m 1,500 miles away. I do a lot of 5-6 figure wire transfers and can just text her the info and it’s done within a couple hours. Any out of the ordinary withdrawals on my account she texts or calls me to verify. Have 0 need to change banks. Have 7 figures with them.

Absolutely! Very glad I bank locally. The bank president is an Auburn man. The service is great with very friendly and helpful staff.

They don’t exist anymore. The only reason new community banks get started is do that they can grow large enough to get bought out.
this has always been the case. It’s still better service… even once they are bought it’s pretty good local/good service if the same local leadership is in place.

Worked for a smaller regional bank right out of college. They placed an emphasis on having a positive impact on the community and doing whatever we could to make life for clients a little easier. Unfortunately, said bank started gobbling up small community and local banks to get a foothold in new markets and grew exponentially. Once the acquisitions started they lost sight of everything community oriented and started chasing the almighty dollar. Essentially we had become no different than Chase or Wells and it was depressing. Left shortly thereafter

How often are ya'll actually talking to someone at the bank that this even matters?

Don't get me wrong, I've been with a local credit union for 16 years now, and will always be with one unless something crazy happens, but I can count on one hand how many times I talk to someone or go into a branch in a calendar year.
