There’s just no way at this point that you don’t know the full context of this quote where he says there should be a welcome mat out front, but a lock on the door.

Funny, I’ve also recently decided that local and senatorial elections deserve more of my attention. Being a husband and father has a way of doing that.
Paxton is a shitty candidate. I wouldn’t trust him with a church picnic raffle.
Talarico, though, is a slimy, weak, spineless progressive who has figured out that openly running as one in Texas is a tougher sell, so now we get the carefully packaged “reasonable moderate who works across the aisle” routine. Anyone naive enough to fall for this has my sympathy.
Paxton isn’t anywhere close to my perfect candidate. But between the two, I’d rather vote to preserve the Texas my children and their children inherit than help turn the rest of the state into Austin or Houston.
So I guess we’ve both suddenly discovered the importance of these elections.
Shame my vote cancels yours out.

He has a track record of voting against any locks during his tenure as a legislator

This has to be the 5th time or so in this thread I have made this request and you (collectively) STILL aren’t able to answer.
You’re acting like it’s ridiculous that when you asked me about his policies that I linked the specific issues page on his campaign website.

I am asking you, a talarico supporter to tell me what it is about his platform that you support.
I’m never going to agree with everything Talarico stands for politically, but there are plenty of positions he has that I think a lot of people are going to agree with:
1. Banning congressional stock trading
2. Banning presidential pardons
3. Instituting term limits on members of Congress
The biggest thing to me is that he is someone who genuinely cares about public education and I feel like he will fight to help kids succeed more in the classroom.
Again, there are going to be plenty of things I disagree with him on, and I understand why people will not vote for him. But to me, he seems like a genuine person that at least cares about trying to do the right thing, even if it’s misguided to me at times.

You Marxist lemmings are so stupid it makes my brain hurt. Absolutely amazing that you believe any of that nonsense

Lots of people said they would support those things before they entered D.C. how naive are you, Hank? And why are you so interested in a Texas race?

That’s kind of the problem. The only actual positions you can point to are three milquetoast, broadly popular campaign promises that sound fantastic in a stump speech and have virtually no chance of ever being implemented in DC. “Ban congressional stock trading, ban presidential pardons, impose term limits.” Great. Sign me up. Now tell me something that actually distinguishes Talarico from anyone else capable of reading a focus-group poll.
I’m more interested in the public education claim. You say he “genuinely cares” about public education and will help kids succeed in the classroom. Specifically, what has Talarico proposed that makes you believe that? And don’t bother if the answer is simply another collection of government services, spending increases, and freebies targeted at “underprivileged” students. I’m asking what he wants to do to improve the actual quality of education and academic outcomes.
I’m a father of young children, one of whom is now in the public school system. This isn’t an abstract political talking point for me. I’m genuinely interested in what someone proposing to “fix” public education thinks is actually broken and how they intend to fix it.
Because “he seems genuine and cares” isn’t a policy position.

Talarico wanted mandatory DEI officers in schools. Is that not enough?

People that think for themselves lol. You are not obviously in that category regarding the future of the state of Texas. Why don't you just go ahead and state that you support this 'guy'?

Oh yeah, this dude would be absolutely tough regarding the southern border of TX. Jeez - he would probably let in more than the previous Pres admin. Lock on the door lol. It is a pity you are falling for this.

Looks more like he will help make groomers more successful in the classroom.

There is nothing wrong with 1-3. But items 1 & 3 have overwhelming bipartisan congressional support. He isn’t special in this regard.
Your point about education is bullshìt. In his home city of Austin, the school district is nearly 1/3 of students are non-English speaking. This is devastating for the quality of education the school is able to provide, and what being intentionally weak on immigration gets you.
This is why people are forced to put their kids in private schools if they want them to get a good education.

Unless you are planning to write-in “no way in hell should Paxton hold elected office” you are voting FOR the back in the closet freak that embraces everything wrong with this country.

Put me on record as saying there is less than 0% chance Talarico wins this race.

Original ask was to give some positions that people agree with. I gave some.
Response:
So there’s just never going to be a right answer that is acceptable with most of you and that’s ok. You can argue those are milquetoast positions that won’t get passed thru, but one of the reasons they won’t get passed is because of scummy politicians like Ken Paxton who use their position for personal gain.
This honestly comes way more from people I know who work for Austin ISD or are involved on public education boards in the central Texas area who have all said he has been phenomenal to work with. So those are people way more knowledgeable than me, but I trust them at their word about him being helpful and a nice guy. I’m not smart enough to know as much about public policy positions, but I will ask a couple people and get back to you if that’s ok.
