There was never a need to fake a passport recovery. It was inconsequential to the investigation. A mere novelty occurrence that makes for good conversation from the tinfoil crowd.
Take the passport out, and we end up with the same conclusions. The abundance of paper documents recovered from every 9/11 crashed airplane was overwhelming, and all were ultimately as inconsequential to the investigation as the one passport tinfoil enthusiasts LOVE to focus on.

Endless Wars and presence overseas
