For the Russians?
It was their airbase for close to 40 years

Clearly would have helped bigly.

glad you heroes are here to support what a zealot "Biden" was for sticking to what Trump agreed to
He would never have gone against deals Trump made.
what a fricking brilliant point

Yea this thread is pure amnesia.
The US public had zero interest in continuing to do anything in Afghanistan. When McCain honestly answered how long our presence in Afghanistan would need to be to achieve any goal the public threw up.
You can’t win a war without winning hearts and minds. The hearts and minds being those of the American public.
Trump, thankfully, ended a war the American public had no heart or mind to continue.
Trump, idiotically, has started a war the American public has no heart or mind to fight.

Didn't Trump's WH establish the terms of the Afghanistan exit?

People elected Trump in 2024 because they wanted to rewind back to 2019. Folks had a nostalgic recollection of how the Trump I presidency went.
I really don't understand why he's allowed himself to be surrounded by cranks and lickspittles. He had a much more competent administration the first time. Too many of these senior admin types are glorified social media grifters just looking to make a name for themselves and grab MAGA after Trump.
The impeachment attempt really triggered some of Trump's worst personality traits and we just don't have the president we thought we had based on 2017-2020.

It's the literal truth.
The agreement required turning it over.
Keeping it would reverse that agreement.

Then we would have to declare war again and start the process over in Afghanistan that we started in 2001 and get stuck in another forever war.
How do you think we could have kept Bagram without doing this? If the deal was "off" the entire agreement was off

It's well known that Biden was executing a strategy that Trump put into place which is common precedence of how presidential transitions happen. People tend to enforce agreements made by their predecessors whether they agree with them or not
This is TOTAL frickING bullshite and a clear sign that you are not a serious individual.
Bidens team completely botched the exit from Afghanistan. Full stop. It was a disaster and Trump had nothing to do with it.
Biden reversed a shitload of Trump directives day one but you believe he was totally bound by Trumps strategy just so you can blame Trump for what was obviously a total failure of the Biden administration. Do you realize how stupid this sounds?

That is a separate discussion from giving up the base.
Which he pointed out by saying this

Why did you leave the part out to REE dishonesty?

Then watched 13 troops get slayed.

The crazy weird part was your contention that Biden was beholden to the Doha deal.
No, I don't think in 2026 that we still would have have Bagram, but claiming that Biden was handcuffed bc of Trumps deal is disingenuous on your part.
There is this, though, but I guess we'll never really know:

Who said it was a bad deal? Everyone praised Trump for getting us out of Afghanistan.
Nobody is defending Biden and people pointing out OP was stupid even were critical of the execution (by Biden) of getting us out).
The deal and our removal are two distinct discussions.

This the most ridiculous example of TDS that’s out there.
Should we have kept Bagram? I think so but others may disagree. Did Trump agree to leave? It appears so.
But to dismiss the whole Afghanistan debacle as a Trump failure is a complete joke. Biden alone oversaw the withdrawal and subsequent release of Bagram. Full stop. “Oh Trump agreed to…” is irrelevant to the Biden administration. We don’t know how Trump would have handled this but we definitely know it was a disaster under Biden. President Squatch would’ve said “nah, we’re keeping this since we spent so much money on it”.
The bigger point though, is that arguing that this was a Trump issue is a litmus test for serious adults discussing policy vs trolls trying desperately to tie everything to “Trump bad” and is the mirror image of the “Jesus is guiding Trump” crowd on the right.
