If you got busted in NK for selling 2 pounds of cocaine to an undercover cop,do you think they would actually deport you? I don't.

I say let him stay and serve out the rest of his prison time. VA has programs that can start working with him on any possible PTSD issues while he is still in prison. We also have ways to know if he is lying or exaggerating about his PTSD as a legal ploy.

Tough to weigh out coke in NK because they've eaten the scales.

I am for him staying.
He was here legal enough to serve this country he should be allowed to stay.
I am all for sending back those here illegally, but in my mind you get moved to a different category when you put on the uniform.
Bad optics also

Depends specifically on the sort of felony drug charge. If its possession, I could buy his story that he became an alcoholic and drug user due to PTSD. If its for distribution, no, get that shite out of here.
This is one of the few areas I'd allow people to jump to the front of the line - military service. If you're from a different country but are willing to bleed and die for this country and the values it espouses you're an American in my book.
I tend to agree. I do think we need better post war care standards though. If mentally unwell it’s easy to spiral quickly into ugly situations. I don’t want the ones that suffered most for the country deported without a real chance.... but I don’t want to give a free pass to everyone that serves. Build good systems, have clear consequences and it won’t be perfect but it should be pretty good.

Yeah I am sympathetic to the PTSD but caught distributing 2lbs of coke? I mean he must have some cartel connections for that amount.

In 2010, he was convicted in Cook County, Illinois, on charges related to delivering more than 2 pounds of cocaine to an undercover officer.

So he can be illegal and go fight our countries wars so your wormy kids do not have to but now he has to go?

The military is one of the biggest welfare programs in history. Means nothing, in and of itself, that this guy wore a uniform.

lakeboy7 completely ignoring the fact that obama ordered the deportation.

I didn't see that mentioned in the article, but I did see people mentioning that in the comments. Yea, if that's the case, deport away.
A quick google shows about ~$80 per gram. There's 453 grams in a pound, so 906 in two. Just shy of 75,000 for its street value. PTSD my arse....

Don’t inject reality into a Big12fan post! They’re like a Buggs Bunny cartoon, only worthwhile if you accept their asininity!

So why should he suffer a harsher penalty than anyone else for the same crime? Complete separation from his family (kids, parents, sister) is additional punishment. We are supposed to be treating our VETS. No doubt he fricked up with the drugs, but he should be given credit for his service in time of war. He at least contributed. Basically the US is telling him and his family that he is not worth it.

How was a non citizen in the Army?
Didn't even know that was possible.
2 pounds of coke- has to go

Illegal, doesn’t matter what he did, especially when he got busted selling 2 pounds of coke to an undercover. But please tell me about your glorious service record turdboy7

Did he learn the coke trade in Afghanistan?
Posted on 3/25/18 at 12:12 pm to HailHailtoMichigan!
It does not matter who ordered the deportation.

It's possible. Citizens from some countries can serve in the US military but restricted based on the fact that security clearances require you to be a US citizen meaning some MOSes would be off the table.
It helps with shortening the amount of time to become a naturalized citizen if one chooses to do so but it also helps not to be booted out on a less than honorable discharge. You know, something some people here seem to just be completely ignoring.
eta: I served with a couple guys from Canada. One used that to get out once the Iraq War kicked off. As a result, he had to go back.

Well I know someone who didn’t get lucky last night!
Original question was stay or go.
Felony without citizenship = bye bye.
Now PTSD from service, requires compassion. Surely there are qualified psychological services available in Mexico. The VA can pay the provider pesos directly for his treatment in Mexico.
Also his American relatives can visit or stay in Mexico if the Mexican government allows it!
