frick yes it was. All is well that ends well but it absolutely was my mother's fault (step dad died before then).

Shitty parents? yes... never thought of hurting them though.

That’s one way to spin it. The other way to describe it would be “looking for a possible motive for why his son slit their throats”.

Odd you people always leave that minor detail - the execution of the parents- out.

There’s that personal responsibility conservatives are famous for.

I guess your mom fathered your oldest child?

No, she kicked me out at 15 almost 16.

Personality conflict between myself and her boyfriend at the time... I fared better than my brother, he got the boot at 12.

My eldest child was born when I was 17.

Anymore questions?

How so?

Conservative parents are typically more mindful of outside influences on their children... don't believe me, ask the FBI- they certainly targeted the hell out of conservative parents concerned with the influence schools have on their children.

I didnt ask you any questions. I didn’t actually think your mother fathered your child.

You’re judging other people as though you’ve never made any poor choices in your life. It doesn’t cost anything to give murder victims the benefit of the doubt that they did the best they could.

In rehab at 15, I would have a long look at myself as a parent. I certainly would invest a great deal of time reconnecting to my child to see what is going on. It's sad that this was going on in the Reiner household. Too late for the parents unfortunately, but hope for the son to pull through this mess.

Never know with you.

They surely did the best they could with what they had within their frame of values and experience.

Doesn’t mean the topic of childhood addiction is off limits.

I mean, if YOU don't want to discuss the broader issues at play in such scenarios by all means feel free to see your way into some other thread of your liking.

But honestly, I thought you reveled in morally ambiguous, sociologically interesting thought experiments.

The one thing that is bipartisan is addiction

Thinking it’s political at all is so foolish

Rob is on record, stating he did not believe in tough parenting.

This should be a lesson for all. Had a guy I grew up with that turned out really bad. Dad was away 90% of the time, met him once, we lived down the street from each other. Mom would still be breast feeding him if she was still alive. Text book example of poor parenting. This case is no different.

It took my wife and I 20+ years to finally save our daughter and frankly, it was my son-in-law that did the heavy lifting. She had a myriad of issues that we addressed to no effect. Frankly, I thought we would get a call saying she was dead. I always told my wife I just hoped she didn’t kill anyone else with her.

I try not to judge other people by their kids. On some level I think you can, but sometimes, no matter the level of parenting, you get something you can’t fix.
