Is this actually a woke thing or just some shitty clueless marketing decision?
What’s the woke angle?

This has ‘New Coke’ written all over it.
When you had people clamoring for your old brand to come back……you still had a viable brand that needed some “bad” pr.

Ok, now this makes more sense. The talking points were issued that they finally had something to grab on to.

I think its an op. Anyone recall IHOP was changing name to IHOB for “burger”.
Cracker Barrel does this and gets free press galore. Then a week later changes it back. Everyone declares victory.
Then stock goes back up and since they got name out in limelight it is in news. Then they run an ad and say it was a pub stunt and how loyal they always were and were never changing it.
Just spitballing.
New Coke did it too.
Having said that they are not that smart. They went woke and its going to tank. Stock is down based on future. Wait another 3 months plus quarterly reporting date and sales data will be way down and then it really tanks.
After that look for a new CEO

In my former career path, I was a manager of a cracker barrel. I began as a server in 2000 opening up a new store. I worked there a second time in 2003. I returned a few years later after I got laid off in 2008 as a server and got promoted to management. In those days the restaurant was solid. Emphasizing making a home that all people in the south could come to and feel like they were at home. During management training you had to go through a two week course in Lebanon, TN.
It was during my training at the home office that I knew the brand was fricked. 30 percent of our education was how NOT to offend people and be inclusive.
This was a stark departure from the brand, even back then.
There were many rules at Cracker Barrel. One of them was "We will never serve alcohol".
Once they broke that rule, I knew the downward slide had begun.
I've been back a few times and the food quality is garbage. The old menu that we thought would never die has been compromised. Even in my time there they brought in microwaves. Something unheard of!
After I left, they descended further and ignored their prep area where sides were made by hand in favor of instant or pre-made sides.
From a former manager who loved this company, it hurts to see an institution die. The signs were all there though. It was a matter of time.

The moment you had to beg and bargain for extra biscuits and gravy at the Barrel was the moment the facade of western civilization began to crack.

A hedge fund is one of the biggest investors already, DEI Blackrock

I haven’t been following this at all. I thought it was just an updated logo that was really boring. What else have they done that has everyone pissed off?

Conspiracy hat time: the CEO is incompetent, but she was hired to do exactly what she's doing: run the company into the ground so that it cab be bought up for pennies by private equity, and successfully resurrected.
Red Lobster essentially did the same thing, and I think they have one of the same key players on their board.

You can take the cracker out of the barrel, but you will NEVER take the barrel out of the cracka.

How much you wanna bet some hedge fund is about to get a steal on some Cracker Barrel stock?
Whenever I see one of these "modern CEOs" do something idiotic like what is happening with Cracker Barrel, that's exactly where my mind goes. Some venture capital cockroaches looking to suck the life out of an aging brand, fatten up and liquidate it for pennies on the dollar.

quote:Not exactly. Coke pulled a bait and switch by introducing a product they knew sucked to give them an opportunity to come back with Coke Classic, which was made with high fructose corn syrup, which is much cheaper. Many people fell for it. I could easily tell the difference. Try a Mexican coke sometime. That’s why Trump is pushing Coke to go back to sucrose.
New Coke did it too.

Trump is going to takeover DC Cracker Barrels and make them retain the original logo and decor

They had an article on NBC that said CB lost $200 million on the rebranding
They lost way more than that. They spent 6 or 700 million on the rebrand too. Now they will be forced to spend more to try and get out of the hole they are in. Good luck with that while you are running a 1.5% profit margin.
The is the cost they are paying for hiring a DEI liberal CEO, who thinks she is smarter than their long standing business model and fundamental foundation.
