I wonder if they showed the message from the POTUS (ahem - Richard Nixon) that was affixed on one of the legs.

Apollo 7 was the real nail biter. After Apollo 1 caught fire and killed three brave American astronauts, all the Apollo missions were unmanned test flights. Apollo 7 was the first, successful Apollo manned launch. Had that failed, the entire Apollo program was set to be scrubbed entirely. Those astronauts had seen the horrible fire that took the lives of their buddies, and still went willingly and sat on top of that rocket not knowing if they would come back alive.

THAT was a nail biter for the entire NASA program.

True - the first in any program is always a nail-biter. That comes with the territory.

In the case of manned space launches, there has never been one that was not a risk. All of those men had more moxie than I would ever had. No way I'd sit on top of one of those things. Especially when they stopped putting the escape mechanisms onboard.

The way the flag was portrayed at the end really wouldn’t have bothered me all that much. It was the way they handled the backlash that was bothersome.

Why not just say, “We apologize, it was an artistic mistake and regret the omission and unfortunately it’s too late to rectify”.

No, instead they doubled down with the whole word effort bullshite and defended their omission.

That being said, it didn’t stop me from going and I liked it all right. 7.5/10.

We aren't going to see it specifically because the movie looks brooding and dull.

But sure, flag planting and stuff.

Both are likely offshoots of the same mindset.

Just for comparison, here are some movies that made more in their opening weekend.

George of the Jungle (1997)
Kangaroo Jack (2003)
Anaconda (1997)
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997)
Hotel for Dogs (2007)

Star Trek III made more money in 1984.

When I found out the movie was not about the space race but was, instead, a 2 hour long constant reminder that he lost a young daughter to cancer, I did a full 180 on it.

A lot of people, including me, didn't see it because of this. Its not even about the moon landing or space race or anything like that. The skyscreamers on the right claiming the movie failed because it isn't some rah rah pro America movie are completely off base.

I have heard from those who saw it, and reviews...that it simply wasn't a good movie. At All.

the Canadians have hid behind the American flag since the beginning of time. I wonder how many technological advancements they use that resulted from space exploration. And they just cant bring themselves to plant the flag.

I really could care less, it is Ryan Gosling we are talking about here. Not a great actor like Will Ferrel.

There used to be a link on the internet that would lead to the audio of the entire Apollo 11 mission. The radio and intercom communications of the entire mission, of course, were recorded.

My wife wanted to go see it this weekend, but I actively talked her out of it and we just went to a nice dinner instead. Not supporting this POS...if she gives me too much shite I’ll illegally stream it.

Haha. Your TLDR section was only ten words shorter (according to a copy-paste into Microsoft Word) than your first bit.

Sad times we live in where people can't be bothered to read a paragraph of text.

I'm not complaining about anything you wrote, just pointing out that your briefer statement wasn't all that brief in comparison to the long statement.

You can't explain that away so quickly as a "mistake". It was intentional.

If it wasn't about the space race or moon landing they shouldn't have titled it "First Man."
